Great Buck Buckeye, congrats! Now the rest of us have to do our part. Hunt hard and shoot straight everyone.
Oh, by the way buckeye, thats the ugliest camo I have ever seen

But I guess it works.

Well boys, I am on vacation for 10 days now and it is time to hit it hard. Went out after work today to clean some blowdowns out of the way and saw quite a few deer. Saw a little buck following a doe around so that is great sign for the rut. On my way out of the woods I kicked up another deer and right behind it was a large bodied deer. When I got to the spot they crossed wow did it stink. Smelled more like estrous than buck pee but it was hard to tell. It was just lingering in the air and was it strong!!! Time to start dragging in some scent!!!
Plan to have a lot of fun this week, hope you all have great success and lets add to the score with Buckeye!!!!!
Lets go get em!!!!

Well the rut is definately happening but not in full swing yet. Got out this morning and it was windy. At about 7am I could hear something running in front of me then nothing. At about 10 after I see a doe out in front of me in the balsams and she was acting hot!!! Well she was and behind her came an eight point. He milled around grunting and scent checking for a few minutes, offered me a couple of shots but I chose to pass. He had a 13-14 in cpread and his g2's were only 4-5 inches long. Very skinny rack on the buck and a small deer. He looked young so hopefully he will make it through the season and get bigger. Had a unicorn spike come in about 20 minutes later but he caught the scent of the doe and took off in the same direction as the 8 did. All in all a successful morning for me, a lot of satisfaction felt to let the 8 go, not many in my area would do the same. Hope it pays off!!!

The only news is bad news, i hunted almost everday for 3 weeks if the wind/weather was right but havent been out for 8 days now, this work thing sucks(except for the fact that the money will be going towards a new bow!!!), and to make it worse the weather finally got cold and the rut was kicking in. Oh well next year or maybe some late season archery if i can find the time since saturday is the last day for archery here until the end of december. Sorry guys for not pulling my weight. Best of luck to you all, and damn buckeye send some of those big bucks my way. Oh yea the buck I was after this year is still around, just hope he makes it through firearms season.

A little update on my hunting:
Went out late on Wednesday because it was pouring rain. It stopped and so I made my way to the stand at 7:30. Saw the eight point I passed up on Sunday coming out of the woodlot below my grandparents house. He is a decent buck about 14 inch spread G2's about 4-5 inches and G3's about 2 inches. He is very symetrical and will be nice next year if he makes it through the rest of the seasons ahead. Well upon going into my stand the deer were moving like crazy. I kicked up a 8 inch spike and saw a couple of other little ones on the way in. To keep a long story short, as luck would have it I chose to sit the wrong stand. It started to rain again at 8:30 so I decided to pack it up and head home to spend time with my wife and kids. I got back to where I parked and took a little practice session with all my hunting gear on. After shooting a few arrows I walked to the back of my truck and looked in the cutting to my left. BUSTED!!! There was a 10 pointer standing there at 35-40 yards staring right at me. I pulled an arrow from the quiver and hoped he would just continue on following the does ahead of him but before I could even nock the arrow he turned and trotted off. No flag was raised and he kept stoping and looking back every once in a while. I just wached him dissappear into the woods. He was about 17-18 inches wide and looked like he had 6-8 inch G2's 4-5 inch G3's and 2-3 inch G4's. A great buck for our area!! He had nice chocolate antlers with polished tips. Got a good look at him but really wish I could have got a shot. Oh well something to look forward too!!!
After he trotted away I started getting pissed at myself for not sitting my tractor road stand and staying through the rain. I know bucks move a lot after a rain but I didn't tuff it out and I didn't choose the right stand. He was heading right down the cutting behind some does and that would have put him right past my stand. Not saying I would have got a shot but who knows. I guess that is why they call it hunting!!!!
Went out this morning and saw a bunch of does and a couple of horny spikes. One of the spikes was doing the lip curl which was pretty cool. He went on to chase a doe and made his way back later to try it again. I am getting a lot of action but no shooters yet. I still have time!!!

Well guys I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is I killed a 10 pointer that scored 148 but I took him with a gun this morning. I've been bow hunting for about 20 straight days and I'm about to drop. I passed up a 9 poiter 4 days ago that would have scored around 130 but I could tell he was still a young deer and I let him go. Today was the first day of gun season so i went with the 270. I'm sad that I didn't get him with my bow but at least now I can get some rest. Good luck to everyone else.
