Yay for South Carolina !
Looks like I got my wish this year...
New for South Carolina in 2008.
Crossbows are now legal for use as standard archery equipment during all archery, primitive weapon and gun hunts.
(including SC) had selected 12 birds/70 days.
S. 691 Game Zone Conforming & Cleanup Bill --Act
No. 286
This Act specifically redefines archery equipment to
include the crossbow; allows the use of artificial lights for
the purpose of observing wildlife by a property owner, lessee,
or person with written permission from the property
owner prior to 11:00 p.m.; allows the use of remote trail
monitors or cameras from fixed locations on a property
and permits, with written permission of the landowner or
leaseholder of the property, the observing of wildlife with
the use of artificial lights by someone who is engaged in
research or documentary filming; and allows for the buying
and selling of wild rabbit parts and carcasses. This Act also
removes the bag limit of 5 antlered deer in Game Zones 4
and 5 and removes DNR’s regulatory authority over deer
in Game Zones 1 and 2.

Now North Caorlina..............................you are surrounded north and south by states that chose to do the right thing for many good reasons. Come on and give your hunters the choice they deserve.

About that, does North Carolina have a total ban on crossbows or is it just restricted to no shipping or hunting with them there? We were able to hunt with our crossbows before, just not during archery season. I was only able to use my Barnett Revolution during muzzleloader and rifle season.
Now I'm really torn over which bow I'm going to usethe majority of archery season. Compound crossbow or compound vertical bow?

North Carolina lets disabled hunters use a crossbow. I use one and all it takes is an application from the game commision and it has to be then signed my your family doctor stating the reason for the dissablilty. Then the game commision mails you a crossbow hunting permit good for life or as long as the dissability last. Also, new in our state for the 2009-2010 season, the commission is planing to let gun season start the same time as archery season. All three weapons came then be used any time. I hope this doesn't pass as it will surely screw up bow season with all those guns in the woods the same time. I would prefer that they open up the month of January instead and prolong the season for deer population control.
