Interesting reading..tell us what state you are in....In pa. we can't hunt over bait or licks......and are allowed only one buck of eight or more points.....and does are allotted by area......good luck to all..64

Well my last hunt went out in a fizzel or Drizzel however I look at it [&o].Will try and get maybe two more days off but it dosnt look good:( ,had a good time out in the woods with the Excal even tho it didnt slay any deer. However I did buy a big ground blind and I have the ProFusion with Acu Draw, think Iam going to see if I can mount a tripod on it from my spotting scope, think I can remove the steddy-eddy and put it on the mount, that way I only need one good arm and the tripod will keep it up and steddy, just have to see if it works and if I can shoot it kinda left handed, dont have much time to figure it out and try.
It is going to be tuff knowing there is two months left of bow season after Iam done with surgery,if I get the tripod thing figured out it will maybe give me a month of hunting if Iam not in too much pain..
If there's a will there's a way ;)........

ok, where to start...

Last weekend - Saturday morning, 1st time out for a real hunt w/ my new Legacy... hadn't shot a single broadhead from it yet, so, I let 4 does walk (they came in to about 20 yards until they winded me)... got frustrated and headed in for breakfast at about 10:30. Practiced all morning with some carbon bolts and Steel Force BH's and got her dialed in at 30 yards... got out Saturday afternoon and didn't see a thing (temp. climbed up to around 87 and an almost full moon was expected for the evening, so I didn't expect much). Sunday morning... didn't see squat.

This weekend - Saturday morning, got out around 7am, never saw the 8 point coming in on me until obviously the exact instant I had a sneezing fit. Needless to say I never got a shot at him. Weather was fair (overcast, very light breeze, temps in the mid-upper 70's) so I tried to stay out all day, but came in at around 3pm with the sky cleared up and someone set the thermostat to aroun 88. This morning (Sunday), got out at 7 again (gotta stop staying up late playing cards in camp!)... saw a nice sized doe but couldn't get her to come in close enough.

Next weekend - debating on sticking with the new xbow so I can finally get a kill with it, or moving to my sure-fire spot and breaking out the .50 cal; but I have 5 more days to worry about that.

Cheers!
MadOtis

Haven't been hunting the last 2 days. Temps are going to be in the record breaking 90's today. Then finally, a cooldown!!! highs in the 50's &60's !!!!
I can't wait. Maybe we'll get a frost and kill of some of these darn skeeters too.

Went hunting Saturday afternoon and it was in the 90's Saw nothing but squirrels. Went this morning for 5 hours and saw 1 deer or should I say I brown streak of a deer running behind me at daybreak. Had been in the stand for just over an hour. Again more squirrels and normal stuff. When I got down at 11am it was smoking hot. Suppose to be record highs tomorrow but I have to work late so no hunting. Suppose to cool off into the 70's by this weekend.

Thermacell is one of the best hunting inventions. However I don't agree with it being 100% odorless. I put a thing of velcro on the back of it, and put it on the last step of my 15ft ladder stands. So its up 13ft feet or so but sometimes all I can smell is the skeeder pad...

Did go to the brand new Gander Mountain yesterday. Waste of time and not very impressive.

saw 2 four points, 2 button bucks, and 1 doe. All got within 15 yards. Suprised to see anything in this heat. Hottest day I ever deer hunted.

Went out tonight with the cold weather that came in. Did not think I needed the liner in my coat so I was cold the entire time. Wind was brisk and spitting rain on me, but I was in blind and dad wanted to be in the stand, I was happy we agreed to that the day before!! LOL!! He was displeased with the decision when we met up after hunt, said he did not like getting sea sick twenty feet up in a tree! I laughed at him and we enjoyed the hunt. No deer, but if I can get some sleep am going out in the morning. Good luck to all!

I went out last evening, didn't see anything. The temps finally dropped to the 40's-50's, but the wind was really a blowin'. I thought I heard some snorting come from behind my blind in the corn. Deer also mighta been been laying low in the corn till after dark.I figured maybe with the wind blowing so hard through the corn, they couldn't hear predators as good and stayed hiding longer. Just a thought, but I surely don't know. I hope they leave it (corn) standing for a couple more weeks. Have appt. this morning. I Will go out again tonite, and hopefullystart hunting mornings more. Have till Jan 6 for archery here. But will start using gun or ML Nov. 17th Good Luck toAll!

After passing up several bucks since the opener, including two 2.5 yr old eights and a ten, I decided to take my freezer deer last night prior to going out. The big Roman-nosed doe (field dressed over 150#) showed at 6 in front of the covered tree stand and gave me the shot I was looking for. Unfortunately an unseen twig deflected the Slick Trick hitting her far back in the paunch. She walked off slowly some 20 yards looking hurt. Just stood there for a while, lay down, tried to get up several times, then expired. I couldn't re cock the Terminator for fear of spooking her out of sight. Took about 15 minutes for her to die; feel bad about her suffering but good about not losing her. She'll be in the freezer by noon today.
The Slick Magnum did an excellant job, passing through and leaving big entry and exit wounds and cutting the artery that feeds the intestines. My second deer with the slicks, can't say enough about their performance so far.
As luck would have it, the high eight pointer with a broken brow tine (the other one is some 10" long), showed as she was breathing her last. He was so focused on her and the corn combine in the field out front that he didn't see me. He's one we want to harvest but with one down he got a home free pass.

Went this morning for a hunt and was good weather but no deer. Had camo, pants and even light thermals on and still was a bit chilled when the wind blew. Did no have liner in jacket so that is a biggie. But the wind did blow some and it spit rain. Was happy that when I left it started to rain pretty good. Going to take a nap and go back out this evening. Good luck to all.

Something " huffed and puffed " at me a few nights ago just before dusk......waited for it to come back out last night, it did.....BIG DOE ....biggest doe I've ever seen in my days of hunting lol.
Nawww , I passed on it since it was about 35/ 40 yards away.....just was not a shot I wanted to take.
This doe would make a ton of ground meat or jerky lol.

Cold rain coming down here all day, not going out this evening.
GOOD LUCK ALL.............BOB

Hi everyone!.
I haven't been out hunting for 2 days. But did just get back from Manistee. We did pretty good. Didn't get both days limit. But did manage 1 day limit! Actually I'm not sure we were supposed to keep 3 kings each or not. They don't really enforce alot cause the fish are going to die anyway. Anyway since this thread is for the days activities I thought I would share one pic. This is the big one I got!! First time going too...now I'm hooked...Pun intended!!

Terrible day in the woods today. Started off late, I over slept. Then on my way, since I was gonna be late, I figured I would try somewhere new on the property. Once I get to the bottom by the creek, I could not find a place to put my climber. So time for plan B. I went farther up the trail near where they would exit into a field for evening feeding time. I climb up a tree about 50 yards inside the woods where 3 trails merge together. One hour into sitting there, the 1 other guy who has permission to hunt there walks buy and I motion so he sees me there. I guess he decided it was time to socalize. So after 15 minutes of hearing his stories he leaves and goes down one of the trails I was hoping a deer would come out of. Half hour later, the property owner drives in on his 6 wheeler looking like he was trying to decide what trees he wanted to cut next. He was about 20 feet from the tree I was in for about 10 minutes and he never saw me at all. But apparently it was to late for him to start cutting cause then he drove off to his house. By that time I knew this evening was pretty much over. Needless to say I was right. Not 1 deer was spotted.

Went out this morning until noon. Found a dead deer, could be car, not sure. Yotes had most of it gone. Went back out this evening and seen nothing again! Can't wait for the corn to come off. 32 acres of woods with couple hundred acres of corn on each side is no fun!

Hotburn76 10-13-2007 11:24 PM

RE: Your Hunt Today! Lets Hear it! Season II

Forgot to add, the dead deer was in a area that I have not hunted in about seven years or so. The land owner gave out lots of permission then and I was tired of competing for hunting so I stopped. Land owner told me no one comes out much any more so I gave it a scout today. Looks pretty good as before. But this place is surrounded by corn or ditches so I will have to wait a couple of weeks until corn comes off to hit it hard.

OPENING MORNING!!! finally getting out. Nice lightand steady breeze out of the NE about 5mph but sure feels flat calm.. Temp about 42 but will feel like 30 after a few hours anyway. Leaves are still as green as summer and fall is way off schedule. Still not sure where I'm going but the car is running and I can't get anymore ready.

My wife walked into the bathroom at 3:30 to curse me for waking her and watched with a strange look as I applied H.S. deoderant to my Ba&% and butt. I think she just thought it was for the old armpits but I figured what the heck. Can't have to much scent free deoderant..

I was gonna take a camera this time (NOT a Cam corder) but the pack already has two much stuff. You would think I was going on vacation not climbing a tree.

OPPS,, now I'm running late.

Beautiful morning in the woods. Just can't believe how far behind schedule fall really is.
I made more noise going into my stand than should be humanly possible. My new Browning 1500 gram thinsulate boots were like walking with snowshoes or moonboots on. Dropped my thermos 20 ft to the ground at first light AND forgot my facemask.
Saw one deer 80 yards away but that was it.When I did climb down I found two really fresh scrapes 25 yards or so from my stand so maybe the big 8pt I did not get a chance at last season is just waiting for me.

Went out last night and this morning. It started raining when I went out the door. Didn't see or hear anything this morning. Also got a late start getting out there. I could hear deer in the corn last night, but nothing came out into view. Maybe tonite. The deerup here are spending 98 % of their time in the corn fields. Only seem to come out for a drink. I see fresh tracks all over, so they must be coming out after dark. Especially since I killed one out there. lol Hopefully the coyotes have the old gut pile ate up by now. I tried to dragthe doe I got out of the immediate erea to field dress her, but didn't get very far with these rods and plates in my back. Brother-in-law still had to help me drag her home. She was a big 'un.Oh well.

Went out this morning and sat in a stand about a hundred yards from the
house. At around 7:30 a.m. an 8 pt. basket rack came by and I took
him thru both lungs. He went about 70 yards down ridge and piled up
there. I didn't hunt yesterday cause it was rainin. Sunday morning I
shot a female Bobcat. She only went 2 yards. Should make a nice rug.
I also shot a doe a week ago so I've got one tag left. Have to get it done
before the gun hunters hit the woods.

Went out last night and seen a buck on far side of pond heading in dads direction, but he never seen it. Had three does head my way, but they started feeding about fifty yards out at sunset. Never had a close shot and then when I thought it was good to leave at dark one of them blew real hard and I heard them crashing away!

Went out this morning on a tree rat hunt with a friend and he shot two and we had a good time. Almost had a hunt on tape of a tree rat, but it was to far and I did not feel like wasting arrow.

Went out on a evening hunttonight and seen no deer. But could hear them in corn moving around. Will not get to go until Monday now.

CRISP!!! 39 degrees with a 4 mph breeze out of the North. Hopefully sumpin will be moving around out there. Gonna try a little bit of light rattling with a touch of bleat and grunt.
I think I am gonna shoot off one of those "buck bombs" as well just to waste $8. Young buck will be the flavor of the day. Maybe it will bring in a big one or maybe a young one. Either way their gonna be in trouble.
Gotta fly. It figures my best North wind stand is 3/4 mile into the swamp. ARG....

Went out last night and it was the same thing Hotburn. I could hear them moving around in the corn. But again nothing came out into view. Pretty close though. I think I may be getting scented. I need to rewash my hunting clothes in the scent /uv control stuff. However the breeze was in my favor so who knows? They might just be getting smart since I took one of their group out. I'm also going to get some acorn scent today to use tonight. I also have a neighbor who just got a little rat terrier. When that da**n thing sees me walk back to the blind, it stands by the edge of the field (about 400yards away) and barks it's a$$ off for 3 hours non-stop. I tried talking to the people about taking it inside (just for 2-3hrs in the eve.) but they won't budge!! They are mad because their son wants to buy my mom's old farmhouse and property, but she doesn't want to sell. If this goes much farther I may have to call the game warden. I feel they are using their dog to deliberately screw up my hunting. It is against the law in Indiana to interfere with the legal taking of a wild fish or animal. I hate to have to do something to the dog. It's not the dog's fault. But you can't just shoot the owner either!!!! lol..... Guess I'll have to ask the state if there's anything I or they can do about it. Being nice hasn't got me anywhere in this particular case. These people aren't the brightest crayons in the box, so that also makes it hard dealing with them. I tried talking to the woman who lives there, when I seen here outside. But she just kinda looked at me like she didn't know what deer hunting was!! And what did it have to do with her dog barking? !!!! GeeeeeZ

I took a 7 pt last week and went after bear in the mountains this week. Got to the mountains and the bear sign was gone. Nothing on the cameras, no bears in camp - nothing. Well we find out the farmer across the back side of the land we have had bears hitting his corn field so he got a damage permit to kill 5. They took 4 already and the corn is already picked. Go figure that out? Punishment for being there I guess. Anyway had a nice group of 4 bucks walk by my ground blind and I took the biggest one. 9 points but pushing 200# deer. 1 buck tag left so I'm holding out for something really good.

Rick's got them lined up and I can't find squat. Post a pic for us old boys bud. I wanna know what they look like!!
It was a beautiful morning out there even if it was as quiet as death. Sat in a to SMALL pop-up blind. I have to stick the Xbow thru the window the darn thing is so small. I did have a raccoon as big as my dog try and join me in the blind.I don't know what his problem was but I think he may have moved in since I set the blind. I thought I was gonna have to kill him but I decided that it would have to be hand to hand as I could not have turned around with the Xbow.
Keep hunting boys.. Not sure if I should job hunt(laid off) or deer hunt tommorrow but I bet the old ball and chain has a few ideas.
