The excal bow are all good and except forrail length and poundage the Phoenix is about the same as my Exocet which is the best unless you need a crank cocker then I would consider a ten point. If you intend to use a rope cocker then you need to be 6 foot+ for the Exomag and the Exocet and I am not sure about the Phoenix but my guess would be that 5"10 " could handle it comfortable. I looked for 6 months last year befor I bought mine and the superstore was by far the best price I found. Hope this helps. Lee

Since I "blew" a Quad 400 up, good move, imho. I'm selling my Phoenix and Emax. I want that thumbhole stock on the Vortex, can't get one for the Phoenix or I'd keep it, as they are real sweet bows. I don't care for the "Right Stuff" package, as I've found better performance in a slightly heavier arrow [431 gr vs 360 gr] and I like the Slick Tricks better than what comes w/ package.
Like Jason posted on another thread, I get tired typing the same-o-same-o like you guys do of reading it, lol. But, seems there is always someone to share info w/. So, you can convert any model of Excal to the next lower one by using heavier arrows and a dacron string vs Flemish Fast Flight. A 305 fps Phoenix becomes a Vixen, Exocet [Vortex] becomes a Phoenix ect ect. All of this is fps wise, you still have the poundage differences. By using 431 gr arrows and FFF strings, I get 290 from Phoenix and 328 fps from Emax, both of which are far more than I need for deer. My best advice ever given to someone thinking Excal is to talk to Danny Miller the USA warranty rep regardless of where you end up buying one.

awshucks I think you might have mistyped some on that reply.
You can slow down any excalibur crossbow by using the dacron string and heavier arrows, but would not convert the bow to the other model. To do that you would have to change a few parts. Some bows would require a change in the Shooting Rail while another bow might need a change of the riser (part that holds the limbs), and then you might need to change both.
Of bows made in the same year, all you would have to do is change the shooting rail to the size needed for the one you want. If for example you wanted to change a newer model Exomag (200lb) to the Exomax, you would have to change the riserr to the forward tilted riser. But if you had the older Exomag (185lb), you would need to change the shooting rail as well as the riser. These conversions will work in either dirrection, going up in bow class or down. All the way from the vixon to the Exomax. (now they have included two new bows and only difference is that they have a thumb hole stock, convert the stock and you will have the other model bow).
Awshucks I believe that Excalibur will sell the stocks seperately, but it might take a little time for them to get caught up on their orders to be able to sell them seperately.

GT, no typo's, lol. What I was referring to is performance [fps] My Emax w/ FFF string and 431 gr arrows now shoots the same fps as an Exocet w/ 360 gr arrows [330 fps] My Phoenix w/ same 431 gr arrows now shoots the same as a Vixen [286 fps] w/ stock 360 gr arrows. My friends Exocet w/ 431 gr arrows is at just over 300 fps w/ Excel string. All of the newer risers and limbs are the same on at least my Phoenix, Emax and friends Ecet. Only the rail length changes, which changes power stroke and poundage. I never did care for any Excal w/ FFF string and the stock 360 gr arrows, which is needed to get the un-needed max fps, lol. I'd advise any new Excal owner to at least try a heavier arrow or go to a dacron string each of which seems to me to accomplish the same thing.
