How many beers did you drink before frying that burger?
I don't know of anything that tastes better fried than grilled.... there are a few things that are better off DEEP fried.... but generally fryin is for bacon and eggs... real meat goes over fire!

It's probably due to the fact that frying, held in the beeffat that is mixed in the ground deer meat.Alot ofpeople thatdon't know how to grill correctly, don't Sear meat on the grill when they first put it on, they flop it on, grill on one side then the other, It makes a world of difference to get the grill good and hot, put aburger on one side fora minute or so to sear it then flip it and do the same then reduce the heat to finish the cooking, It will make for a much tastier/juicier burger.
I agree with most everyone else, Meat and Fire are the only way to go, I have fried deer burgers, they are good, but to me just not quite like the taste of some good grill marks.

There is not enough fat in venison to grill and when you use plain venison to make a burger it will always come out dry.
There might be good ways to grill a burger, but I prefer to mix mine 50 / 50 with pork butts. At $2.99 a pound, I have some of the best deer meat in the world!
Plain old venison on the grill - bleech!

add enough for your taste.Ps. Beef fat lasts longer in the freezer than pork fat. So I make mine with 20% beef fat. I use pok and beef fat combo for ground meat that I will use for meatloaf of meatballs,

a good way to make deer burgers is mix it (2 to 1 ratio) with sausage, I personally use deer sausage made with mixed in pork fat, but I have used regular pork sausage (the cheap stuff no need to get fancy) typically the cheaper the better b/c it wont make the burger taste like a sausage patty, put some liquid smoke, ground pepper, and seasoned salt in it and your good to grill.
keep in mind, my deer meat is ground with 18-20% beef fat. so you may have to adjust your fat % accordingly.
