I know I should be happy that I have a good job, bla bla bla! But I just found out that I'm gonna miss the majority of my bowhunting season.
I have to do some client servicing and will be traveling throughout most of October. Heck, I won't be able to hit the field until Oct 25, at the earliest.
I'll miss opening week because I'll be in California.
I'll miss the second weekend and part of the next week because I'll be in Kansas City.
Then I turn around and head to Indy.
Why is it that your biggest clients always want to see you when you already have plans? Hell, I rarely have to travel this much over any 90 day period.
Man am I bummed. I think I'm going to take off early today and drown my sorrows!

I totally understand your pain. I was president of the AZ division of a company for many years and decided to quit after they sold to a big greedy outfit(now bankrupt)in 1996. Just coincidental that I quit the day before an elk hunt in NM! Best trip I ever had and got a job running a competitor on the phone on the way to hunt. Last year after a merger and push to fire a bunch of good people I did the same thing. Resigned on 9/6 and hunt was 9/12. Spent 2 weeks hunting and did NOT get a job! Forgot that phones don't ring after 50. Oh well, I finally found a great small business and put it all on the line. I had a lifetime of some little corporate puke screwing up my life right before a trip. Hope next year is better for you and I don't recommend my actions to anyone.

Iam in the USMC, and stationed at California. Ive been A Pennsylvania Bowhunter for 15 years. Joined the USMC and now Iam stationed in California. Talk about a change. My first season I would ever miss was in 2001. It was the hardest thing I had ever done missing archery season, even harder than bootcamp. But I made the best of it. And now 2002 came and I told myself never again. I bought a new bow out here, and figured on hunting California. Well I already filled both of my tags. I shot 2 2X2 blacktails in the North Coastal area. I will finish my duty in 2004 August, when I will finally be able to return to the beautiful Pennsylvania woods in 2004 and continue my love for archery. Missing a season only made me love bowhunting even more, and realizing that I can not miss a season without going crazy. txbowhntr at least your going to be able to do some hunting in late Oct. Make the best of it, and I wish you the best of luck and god bless. MATTHEWS

I know what you are going through.
Last year just at the begining of Bow season here in Ohio I was laid off. Took until the end of January to get a new job. There went the season I did get to hunt last year though as I took a trip to South Africa in June. Great trip but I still like to spend time in the deer woods.
txbowhntr, Look at it this way, you keep working hard and plan a vacation for next year and schedule it now then you have the excuse when it comes again. "I have a vacation and will be out of touch. I call you when I get back!"
The spouse may not like it but plan a long weekend and hunt non-resident in the state you are in if you can.
Good Luck
Greg

Have fun and be safe. Find time to hunt when you can.

Maybe this will make you feel better:
I was stationed in England for 4 years. I hunted the 92 season in the U.S., missed out on 93, 94, and 95 season. Came back on vacation and only hunted for 2 weeks in 96. Came back in 97 and lived in the woods! How's that?

wolfen, I'll be visiting with Birch Telecom.
Bruce, I wish it was that kind of servicing! I am a marketing director for a financial services company. More affectionatly known as the corporate a$$ kisser! I get to go up and do the dog and pony show as well as some in-house consulting.
Normally I could send one of my staff but the opportunities for increased marketshare are far to important, at least that's what my EVP is telling me!
