Mossberg,
I'm also guessing that you are at a young age and really just don't know how to comfront the grampa. If this is the case, talk with your mother, dad, aunt, or uncle (whoever) and explain the seriousness of the crime committed and make sure that they understand what your punishment woulda been if the grampa had been caught when this crime happened. Make sure that whoever you talk with knows your feelings on this matter as well. Any half-way responsible adult will either confront the law or the grandpa about the issue, and as far as you're concerned at this point of your life, you have properly dealt with the issue.
Even though you might be at a young age right now, it doesnt mean that you cant stand up for what you believe is right, especially since it appears that you are being forced into doing so with all that has happened. If the gramps and the best friend gets mad at ya, well so be it, let 'em.
The kind of guys that a young man needs to be around are ethical hunters/sportsmen that respect the game that's available for all hunters to enjoy. Do yourself a favor and come clean with this to someone that will help you.

Smack 'em where it hurts!

The other's are right, poacher's only hurt what we as sportsman fought so hard to get and keep, I understand your position with the friend but if he's any kind of friend he'll respect your view if not then he wasn't a true friend like the fellow hunters here.

These Guys are steering you in the right direction.
If you are a young man, then get help from a trusted adult. If you aren't, then you should have known better.
I HAD a hunting buddy that I seen spotlighting does and cutting out the backstraps then leaving the rest to rot.
I turned him in and told him I was going to. He still will not speak to me and that is his problem.
If you want to do the ethical thing, make a phone call!

Well sounds to me that you need a new friend, becuz your gonna never be able to hunt again if you keep hanging with that one. And for the guy that shot the deer he ought to be spanked, showing youngters that. Thats not the way to hunt. This is the reason people dont have a place to hunt. Show a lil more respect to the animal. hope you make the right decision, good luck to ya this year ( legally ).

moss, i've done this myself when i was young and dumb. i had all three of my very young children with me. my son told the came warden what i had done. it was one of the best things that ever happened to me i learned a good leason.plus i could hve taught my son to do someting bad. it cost me a lot of money and i lost my hunting rights for a few years, but it made me a better man, and i will never do it again. do the right thing or you will be as bad as him. if your friend gets mad so be it. theres more real friends out there like this board.

I can only see one reason for shooting a deer out of season. Funds are nill and you need to feed your family. Period. This doesn't sound like one of those cases.
When I was young we lived out in the sticks. When times were tough, and they often were, we took deer out of season. Not in the middle of the night and just enough to get by. We hunted for the very reason God put deer and the like on this earth. My father never hunted for trophies and never killed just for the sake of killing something. Only to provide for his family when we really need it.
I feel times were much different back then than they are now and our situation was much different than most have experienced. I agree with others that have responded to your post if this is some yahoo just having "fun" nail him to the wall, but...
If it was out of necessity (I have a feeling it wasn't, why he would shoot a fawn in that case is still stupid) you should not blow the whistle on this guy. Is this making sense? I feel there can be too radical of a view on this subject.
Anyway, I'll probably get blasted by someone for my opinions and that advice but I don't think anyone can criticize shooting game out of season for those reasons untill you've really been there.

Mossberg,
If I read your posting correctly, you had no problem with "one of your best friends" grandpa's poaching, but you took exception to his having killed a bambi. Would you please clearify your position, so we will know how to answer your question.
