ELKINMTCWB - awe C'mon, freindly little name calling jabs is accepted in a forum like this. I've been called a lot on this thread alone
but none of it was in an attacking manner - just friendly poking that I totally understand.
Please tell me you're not taking anything on this thread personally ? This is a thread about the FACTS of what crosbows are, and the effects they have on the states that allow them (none) and the effects they might have on the states that will allow them in the future, and its also evolved into a thread on what a compound is, what is wasn't, what its become etc etc

maybe you kids can see this differance.
bow and arrow
COMPOUND - bow and arrow
CROSS - bow and arrow
anyway you look at it the last two are modified bows.
and neither should be allowed in archery season. back when i started shooting bows in the 60's we would shoot at a milk jug with our recurves and hit them easy at 30 and 40 yards. making shooting a deer out of a tree at 5 and 6 yards feel easy. these days i shoot at the cap on the milk jug with a compound so don't try to tell anyone that the compound is just another bow. it is no worst that the crossbow. and yes i also have a crossbow because i love to shoot anything with a string. to the guy said that the crossbow is deadly at 100 yards or even 50 yards is nuts. i think most of you kids should go cry to your mama because most of us here are tried of hearing it.

If you hunt with a crossbow, don't call yourself a bowhunter. I can pick up a crossbow and be in the woods tomorrow hunting deer after one day of shooting tight groups. Little bit more skill involved in a recurve/compound. Same as a gun to me, after a few shots the weekend warrior can be in the woods tomorrow. If a person is handicapped, than thats a different story. Bobby

Nobody here could pick up a recurve and be ready to shoot tommorrow if you haven't been practicing with it a lot.
What do you think about those cookies ?

Yeah and the weekend warriors go to walmart the night prior to hunting season and pick up there rifles too. It requires a little more skill in operating a compound as to pulling a trigger. Please don't put me in the same group. Bobby

I don't know where to even start with this one.
That is just the elitist attitude I was talking about. So let me get this straight........your NOT a bow hunter if you use a crossbow, but you ARE a bow hunter if you use a crossbow as long as you are handicapped? So the crossbow somehow CHANGES when the person behind the trigger is handicapped.
So the only criteria to be a BOW hunter is that it must be hard to do and take a long time to master because as you stated anyone can pick up a crossbow and be in the woods tomorrow hunting. Huh? What if a person bought a crossbow but ACTUALLY practiced with it to the point that he/she was very proficiant with it and this person also knew how to read deer sign and watch the wind etc.... Only then did this person go hunting.....Still not a bow hunter?
My point is (if you could not understand it) Anyone can buy a weapon and go hunting the next day. It doesn't matter if it's a crossbow, rifle, compound bow, long bow, etc... The people who do that will allways do that. Very weak argument and it only shows your elitist attitude. Just say what you really mean.....you don't want anyone else to play in your sandbox.

Does it GET much easier than that ? Face it - the modern compound bow is DESIGNED to be accurate, EASY, quiet, fast , light ............. all in one package.
If crossbows were that much easier/better, wouldn't states that allow them in archery season be 90% crossbow hunters ? But no - the majority are still compound hunters.
What does that tell you ?
And hey Bobby, I CAN put you in the same group because I shoot a recurve, which requires me to spend hours and hours of tme mastering, shooting off the shelf, no sights, no triggered releases, no peep, no cams, no wheels, no cables, no letoff ............ I can say you're a bowhunter wannabe because my choice of weapons is vastly more difficult than yours (BTW, the same argument you're trying to use if you didn't notice)
See how easy it is for YOU as a compounder to suddenly look the fool ?

I thought I made myself perfeckly clear, read it again. Bobby
Are you kidding me! Silent, Data, is this one of you messing with me? This is not real.
Ok let me try this one more time...........JUST because it takes longer to master a compound bow than a crossbow (not by much I might add) it dosen't give you or anyone the right to say it's not bowhunting. If you feel that way then the example that datamax gave proves that YOU are not a bow hunter because it takes longer to master a long/recurve bow than it does a compound....so your NOT a bow hunter?
