It requires a little more skill in operating a compound
Your referring to yourself as a compound bow shooter by this remark.

Bobby - why, you're correct, you DIDN'T say you were a compounder. You alluded it ... but yeah, I guess you didn't come out and say it. Sorry for my jump in assumptions though you can see exaclty how they are true, can't you ?

Why ?

ORIGINAL: stealthycat

I can take any tuned compound from any board member here and be deadly out to 30 yards with it in 10 minutes of shooting. Seriously guys, I can hold 4" groups with any tuned compound and most people who have shot any can do the same.

Stealth, can you shoot left handed? I know what ya mean though.

You replied to a "stealthycat" April 20 2004 and said you know what he means by how easy a compound is to use.

Am I wrong there ?

Do you guys realize that you're just going 'round and 'round in circles and not getting even one iota closer to any sort of resolution or agreement on the original matter at hand? I feel like I'm watching a bunch of kittens chase their tails around, only it's starting to loose it's humility.

You know what, it dosen't matter if you shoot a compound bow or not. Your argument is still flawed. You are trying to SUGGEST that because it's not hard to master a crossbow it's not bowhunting. Out of all the arguments that have been presented from the anti-crossbow side that by far is the worst.

Of course, a recurve is easier to use than a long bow, a compound is easier than a recurve and a cross bow is easier than a compound and a muzzleloader is easier than a gun. It needs its own season as muzzleloadeing but not competing with the bowhunters, if this was the case all the newbies would be buying crossbows and the art of bowhunting will be gone. Like I said, don't include yourself as a bowhunter if you use a crossbow. Two different idenities. Bobby

Okay, HNIJustin has it right ............ ya'll have exhausted me with your feeble attempts to justify crossbows NOT being in archery season. You've failed .......... but you've exhausted me

Oh .. .........one last thing Bobby that defines the type of "bowhunter" you are. With your convictions (like many here) you'd look the boys in the face that have killed deer with crossbows and tell them how they are not "real" bowhunters, that they shouldn't have been allowed to hunt with a crossbow and how their kills are less important and less meaningful. Because of your personal belief (thats is contradictory to what you posted in the quotes I drug up) that a crossbow isn't a bow (and contrary to AR, TX, OH and GA's rules and the handicap rules in almost every state) and with nothing to back that assumption up even though we've spent 60 pages trying to define it .......... you'd look those boys in the face and slap them down for their accomplishment.

Thats the saddest part about anti-crossbow zealots.

Until another crossbow thread surfaces ...........

Data, yes I could say that, I would not say anything in this forum that I would not say to your face or sharing my campfire with, my word is my bond and you take it for that and remember it.
Justin, I thought the forum would really like to see 60 pages of activitity, I'm sure the sponsors got to love it. I bit my lip on this one long enuff and thats the rest of the story. [:'(] Bobby

Because I just couldn't have this thread end without these last points being at the end...

BigJ wrote-
This is the point that even I have the hardest time with because it is so different. I guess the way I rationalize it is like this. While that is a big difference, there are still so many similarities that can't be ignored that make it still more bow like than anything else. Including it's legal definition.
Nobody disputes that there are similarities, but that big difference (the holding at full draw vs cocked) is at least, if not more of a differentiator than "loose powder vs shells" as Data put it.
But the difference is loose powder vs shells - a core difference that goes beyond does it have a different stock or way to hold it. But - inlines and modern muzzleloaders have gone way too far too.
The legal definition of archery does not include crossbows, at least not in any place I have hunted.

Do you agree pandora's bow of archery was opened then ?
I do. Which is exactly why we shouldn't rip the lid off, smash it into bits, light it on fire and abandon even the concept of archery. That has not been done yet, because compound still require practice and archery skills to shoot correctly and well. But remove the draw, and anchor point and release part.... and you left archery on your road to crossbows. A valid weapon to be sure .. but not archery.

I don't think people should have to wait just because you don't feel like sharing "your" season.
Silent's point..... as we have learned that he lives in a very very bad neighborhood and his children will join gangs and do drugs if they don't get to shoot crossbows during archery season.
It is not "my" season, it is all of us archers season. I also hunt with ML's, rifles and shotguns .. and I must wait every year to use them. I love my bow, but also love to grab my shotgun and hunt birds or chase bears ... it's ok that hunters must wait till their appropriate season. Each year we wait till fall to hunt deer, wait till spring to hunt turkeys... it's part of the sport... waiting.

So let me get this straight........your NOT a bow hunter if you use a crossbow, but you ARE a bow hunter if you use a crossbow as long as you are handicapped?
Only 1/2 right BigJ .. you are NOT a bow hunter if you use a crossbow, and if you are handicapped and use a crossbow you still aren't a bow hunter... you are a crossbow hunter. That doesn't make you less or inferior, just different.

It's been fun boys ...
