The thing that remains is people are going to use whatever method they choose whether it be, shotgun, crossbow, compound, recurve, traditional, muzzloader, or whatever. If they want to use it then let them, thats their choice in the land of the free and home of the brave.
Agree 100%! Let them use whatever weapon they want! Is there something wrong with a seperate crossbow season?

Datamax, are you a moron?

MS has has one of the top 5 deer populations in the country. Our deer herd in definitely booming and healthy enough. We don't have the soil or genetics to compete with Ohio. We also have a 4 month hunting season as is and kill over 350,000 deer a year. Gunners outnumber bowhunters 5-1. We can't handle an additional 50,000 hunters in the woods during bowseason. IMO, it would make our already extremely skiddish deer very hard to kill.

Y'all know why Datamax has so much time to make all these posts and download crazy dancing avatars don't you? It's because he's a crossbow nut and doesn't need to practice because his crossbow is already scoped in. This leaves lots of time to argue and repeat his point until someone actually buys it.

Other than there is no reason to, I don't suppose. I guess there should be a seperate handgun season ? A seperate shotgun from rifle ? A sepreate inline muzzleloader from caplock ?

Datamax, are you a moron?
Hmmmmmmm, lets see if I am.

Main Entry: mo·ron
Pronunciation: 'mor-"än
Function: noun
Etymology: irregular from Greek mOros foolish, stupid
1 usually offensive : a mildly mentally retarded person
2 : a very stupid person

Well, I'm a senior tech at my job, I have a wife and 2 children and am awaiting news on my offer to buy a 2200 SF home with 5 acres for $150,000 +/- so nope, I'm probably not mildly retarded.

Very stupid ? I've developed a rock solid argument that you and the others are having an extremely hard time cracking - so no, probably not that either.

Could you handle 50,000 more compound/recurve/longbow bowhunters ?

Now it becomes clear. You don't WANT more bowhunters, do you ? Why ?

It could be you fear competition. Selfishness that you want to be able to hunt but you don't want others hunting around you unles they do it exaclty the way you want them too, right ? Tsk Tsk, same can be said of trad hunters when compounds came around.

It could be you fear overharvest ? Reduction in bag limts ? Reduction in season ? Tsk tsk, we know that doesn't happen, look no further than Ohio and Arkansas and other states that allow crossbows.

So now, why is it you cannot "handle" additional bowhunters ? Because truth is, they fill their tags with a rifle, or with a bow .... does it really matter at all how its done ? And with archery MORE difficult than rifle hunting, your deer herds could actually INCREASE if 50,000 rifle hunters put down their guns for bows.

And wouldn't that too be a good thing ?

It wouldn't happen, it would basically just increase man days in woods, without any increases in hunter numbers.

Yes, for selfish reasons I want bow season to stay bow season. Not a free for all where you can use whatever contraption you see fit.

Oh and by the way, since I'm being selfish, remind me again what county you killed that KS buck in ?

This is now a deer sightings thread. Double Creek i agree with extra hunters situation but not really much can be done about that. Deer sighting as far as ive been told were down here in alabama and i think dont hold me to this also but the harvest was down as well i think. What i think hurt our season in the south was this crazy warm weather we had turned everything topsy turvy. As far as deer seen i seen about 15 the whole year and 8 prob 10 or 11 was two herds i seen abotu 4 by themselves

How do you propose to just put 50,000 more bowhunters on the ground? That is a stupid argument and you know it, that is impossible without a reduced gun season, in which case I would support it. I truly believe my State is getting maxed out it man hours. We just don't need it.

CROSSBOW RULES in NH
• A crossbow means a device consisting of a bow mounted to a
rigid stock for discharging quarrels, bolts, or arrows and having
a mechanical means to hold and release the drawn string.
• A bolt means a short projectile for a crossbow that resembles
an arrow.
• A crossbow shall have a minimum pull of 125 pounds, a
working mechanical safety and a stock no less than 25 inches
in length.
• No person shall take deer with a bolt tip other than a broadhead.
Fixed blade broadheads shall not be less than
7/8 of an inch or more than 1-1/2 inches wide. Retractable
blade broadheads are permitted (must not be less than 7/8 of
an inch wide when open).
• The hunter’s name and address shall be plainly printed on
each bolt.
• Persons taking a deer with a crossbow shall only take deer
during the regular firearms deer season with a crossbow
permit available from Fish and Game Concord headquarters.
Deer taken with a crossbow shall be tagged with the regular
firearm tag.

In our state's legal definition of "Archery", crossbow's are expressly mentioned as not being considered archery equipment. In fact, you can hunt with them during the firearms season if you wish but absolutely not during archery season. They are clear it is a punishable offense to ride around with a loaded crossbow in your vehicle, so Datamax would have to be careful in this state.

This crap that crossbows are "archery" equpment is getting old. They've been around for hundreds of years so this is not like we're talking about something new here. When I learned archery, I didn't have the option of grabbing a recurve, long bow, compound OR crossbow. I've never been at an archery shoot, match or tournament and seen a crossbow present .... EVER. A compound is defeinitely more technically advanced than a recurve or long bow .. but you still shoot them EXACTLY the same way, and they shoot the same thing "arrows" and trying to say a compound and a crossbow have more in common than a recurve and a compound is stupid.. An archer can shoot ANY bow, his proficiency and accuracy may take longer to develop with a long bow, but proficiency and accuracy are developed through practice... not by "sighting" in your crossbow at the range sitting at the same bench the rifle guys use and the only thing you adjust is your crosshairs. Hell.. you don't even need to sight in your crossbow .. ANYONE can do it for you!

Uh, wrong. I currently shoot a Hoyt Recurve. I haven't owned a crossbow in 12 years or more

You made the assumption that MS could not handle 50,000 more bowhunters, not me. So MS COULD handle it if it were to happen ? And yeah, they WOULD be considered bowhunters as well as rifle hunters - two season hunters still get counted towards being Bowhunters.

Okay, give me a figure then on how many more hunters archery season need to become super saturated ? 5,000 ? 10,000 ?

Oh wait .........

I truly believe my State is getting maxed out it man hours. We just don't need it.
Well by golly then ! We don't need anymore hunters, do we ?

Damn compounds - I agree
