I made a BIG mistake

Zak,
You seem like a person with a conscience based on your previous posts. Take the high road and you will always know that you did the right thing. It doesn't matter how Cabelas treats their employees to you. The only thing that should matter is how you act in this situation. You can only control what you do and hopefully it will be an inspiration for others. As far as the change for a 5 and you get back change for a 20. Only 1 thing to do is point out to the clerk what they did and make it right. What goes around comes around.

The situational ethics in these posts scare me. So you (generic you) are willing to sell your integrity for $300? I wonder if that's close to 30 pieces of silver? Zack, I'm interested to hear how this turned out. I respect your willingness to be honest.

Call them up, or go on down there and explain what happened. Let them decide, a clear concious is worth $300 isnt it? Think about it. I just bought a bow of the net, I hope he doesnt screw me over because i live in a bigger house, or drive a more expencive truck. That is kind of the mentality on here isnt it?

Well Zak,
You lied when you sent it to them so wasn't it your intension to "pull one over" on them? Not to chastise you but this is exactly what you set out to do. It's good that you feel some guilt, it means you've got a conscience.
If you feel you must make it better you could fess up (
) or you could spend the money at cabelas and afford them the opportunity to earn back their profits (And I believe that their customer service department has earned it), or you can chalk it up to a life experience and store this little tid bit of info of how if feels to come by something dishonestly and make an honest effort to not do it in the future.
IMO what's done is done. Cabelas has showed their willingness to go the extra mile for a customer and their refunding you will not break their bank. As a result you'll likely be a loyal customer and continue to shop with them and that's why they took care of you. IMO chalk it up to life experience and be a better person in the future because of it.

Cabelas prides themselves on their Customer Service - they gained a customer for life with them backing a bow even though it was your fault, didn't they ? Kudo's to Cabelas, remember how they treated you and in the long run, its in their favor !

Just do the RIGHT thing. You know in your heart what that is.

I am going to keep the money. I talked to one of the people and asked for the number to the refunds department. They said they did not have one. I then told her about my lie. She said to keep the money. I told her that it was my fault, and if the people knew that, do you think they would refund my money. She said that they look for defects from the manufacturer. I kept telling her it was my fault, but she kept telling me that they had another reason to send me the money. I feel much better inside. I am not going to buy a new bow with that money. I am probably going to buy something for my truck from them. Thanks for all of your opinions guys.

What did you think they were going to do when you didn't tell them the truth in the first place? You need to be prepared for the consequences of your actions. What is the difference between getting the cash or a replacement bow from them anyway? Keep the money, buy a new bow, and learn from this experience. They probably know it was your fault anyway. Big ups to Cabelas for sending you the cash!!
