Doesn't make me sad at all that you shoot better with the Alpine instead of the Firecat. As a matter of fact, I'm darned happy for you. Congratulations!

I doubt you'd be shooting the Alpine as well if you hadn't had a stable, forgiving bow like the Firecat to hone your shooting form with though.

VERY possible Arthur.
I didn't think anyone would be sad that I shoot better with the Apline... Just sad to see the Firecat reduced to shooting carp
The Firecat is a GREAT bow....can't seem to get rid of it. But as I said, For ME the new toy is the better choice.
Now, If I go back to my Stanislawski release.....I think we'd be putting a scope on the Firecat.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quotequote:
I would like to think a lot of people wouldn't mind giving up some of that speed if they just gave 'em a try.

Can you even buy something like you describe today? I mean a new one.

I'm shooting about the closest you can get to it with today's bows. 46" axle to axle, round energy wheels, 8 5/8" brace height. Smooth drawing, smooth shooting, generous valley, good heft (not too heavy, not too light), deadly accurate and a whopping 255 IBO. Hoyt ProTec with LX Pro limbs and Accuwheels. Finger shooters' dream.

PSE still makes the Vector wheel and it's a nice drawing eccentric. Their bows are too short for my taste, but they make a good wheel.

The Accuwheel and Vector are the only two actual 'wheels' I know of that are still on the market.

Arthur & c903, take it easy on the short, fast bows. I like them, that should be all you need to know to make you want one.
I tried a long ATA bow once. It wasn't as bad as I expected. My brother-in-law just hated holding the stabilizer, to help me hold it off the ground. It did a nice job digging pit blinds with the bottom "wheel", though. The worst part was, my clothes went out of style by the time the arrow got to the target. But like I said, it's not all bad. My one ton van rides better with that bow in the back.

Now to the question. I agree, brace height has more to do with "forgiveness". The longer ATA is more helpful at helping stabilize and overcome form flaws; canting the bow. I have two bows with 7" brace. One 31.5". The other 40". The shorter bow is as accurate when I do everything just right. The longer bow is easier to shoot more consistently. At 25 yds and under, normal hunting distance in Ohio, the short bow is plenty accurate and consistent. As I back up the longer bow becomes easier to shoot good groups with, consistently. BTW both bows shoot about the same speed.

Phil.

Well, I'm 6'6" tall, weigh too far over 300 pounds, wear size 15 boots, have a 33 1/2" draw length and have to buy trucks like I buy shoes. Have to try 'em on and see if they fit. That oughta be enough to make everybody else wanna be like me!

I've always said that you should shoot a bow length that fits your size. There are some oddballs, specifically Frank , that are borderline candidates for induction into the Ape Armed Knuckle Draggers Assn. but shoot very well with short bows. But, as a rule of thumb, I'd say shorter bows for shorter draw lengths and longer bows for longer draw lengths. And full size MAN'S bows for people like me.
