Hunting is a RIGHT......not a privilege.

To some extent it is a privelege. If you're caught and convicted of poaching , dont you lose your hunting priveleges? It's no different than losing your driving priveleges if your caught drunk driving.

To me , a "right" is , our "right" to remain silent or our "right" to freedom of speech. When law dictates wether we keep those "rights" then they become a privelege.

Bowfanatic, Not in my eyes....Hunting in itself is a God given right and I take that personally. The Government made it a priveledge and I will obide by the current game laws, however, and I can promise you this, if the PETA people ever win and hunting is illegal, then I will be an outlaw because I will continue to hunt.

I find it very surprising that I agree with some of the points here. The rest are your opinion and that is ok to. Some of your opinions are either very strong or miss informed. I don't know how many deer you have taken with a gun, but a muzzleloader and shotgun is not the way to fix the gun season. There are more deer wounded with those two types of weapons than rifles I am sure. Coming from Iowa where they are the only gun choices (besides pistol) I can tell you that there are alot of weekend gun hunters that pick up a shotgun or muzzleloader once a year and go deer hunting. Both weapons need more practice to shoot than a rifle. There has been no state that has went away from rifles because of poaching and accidents. Population has been the reason for use of short range weapons. You can't argue that people take too long of shots with rifles because they do with any weapon. I have seen people take 250 yard shots with shotgun slugs. Accidents are not prevented by taking away a certain kind of weapon in most cases they are stopped with education and practice.
I think my biggest problem with this post (maybe my only problem) is that you are doing what you complain about everyone else doing. Trying to push your opinions on someone else. What is the point? To start an argument? We need those people to go out and hunt to help control the deer population. You constantly belittle other hunters for thier choices. I have typed (if it is legal it is ok) before because it is. You don't have to like it, just live with it.
I guess it comes back to the old saying "you can have an opinion, just know that it may be very different from everyone elses".

Oops I guess I don't much about being a "loser". But that will teach me to argue with a man that knows as much about being a "loser" as you do

PS I really don't shoot very well either But I bet I have killed more book bucks than you

If a judge orders you to answer something and you don't the law says that you have to. If you don't you are convicted of contempt of court. So by your defintion we don't have the "right" to remain silent either. However, you may choose to do so anyway which is exactly what I would do if they outlawed hunting. So, yes I have the "right" to hunt. God told me in the bible to hunt. That is where I got the "Right".

Why has hunting become about the size of the antlers?? If you want to trophy hunt, then so be it, but don't try to tell me what to shoot!! I hunt because I love to be outdoors. If I shoot a spike or a forkhorn buck, does that make me immoral or unethical???? Give me a break.

Rob , I feel the same way as you! The point I was trying to make is when gov't or law dictates wether you keep those rights (based on your own actions) it becomes a privelege (legally).
I would also be a criminal if they took away my hunting rights/priveleges.

Dan I have to agree with you. What ever size deer anyone chooses to shoot should be up to that individual. Here in PA we now have Antler restrictions in place for this year and I for one dont believe that they are neccassary but I will have to follow them. I have shot small bucks and each and everyone has some great memories connected to them.

Privelege - adj - A right or immunity granted as a particular benefit, advantage, or favor

Right - something to which one has just claim: as a. the power or privelege to which one is justly entitled.

I see there is a difference, and agree that I wish it were seen as a right by all of the legal bodies currently managing the game laws today. I feel it is both a privelege and a right, and I'm priveleged to particicipate in this activity by virtue of the way I conduct myself when I hunt.

A 30.06 bullet travels 17,700ft. That is over 3 miles. If you have a designated shooting area(like a feeder)it limits the unforseen accidents. There is a difference between "bait piles" and "feeders". Cows can eat from "piles" but cannot eat corn thrown from a "feeder".
A feeder is a good way to teach a young person or neewbie how to hunt. The only time you might see a trophy buck at a feeder is during the rut. If you have pigs they will more than likely eat all the corn before the deer show up. Texas has more whitetail than any state. I see at least 50 everyday. If you are an adult and shoot a little buck or doe everyone would laugh at you...
As for Peta, I guess they forget that whiteatil carry lyme disease. When the pretty deer drop ticks in their yards and their children get lyme disease maybe they will understand herd management a little better. Last year in south Texas they also had several cases of anthrax in deer.
We have a "SPECIAL SEASON" for DOES AND SPIKES/antlerless.
