It's been pretty good. I killed a big doe the first week and killed a decent buck a couple days ago bringing the total to 4 deer, but I haven't yet connected with a "really big one" yet this season.
I missed a couple of great days due to butchering and some absolutely necessary "honey-do's." The rut has been going full-swing here. I've been seeing more bucks than does some days--all the close ones were 6 points and smaller. When I finally killed my buck, I was feeling pretty good about it until I got to the checking station . . . a couple of good friends were there checking in an absolute monster that one of them had just taken--it was nearly twice as big as mine! I had been sitting in trees from dark-to-dark for days on end and seeing smaller deer. One of my friends goes out one afternoon and had this GIANT walk to with-in ten yards of him and takes two shots to kill it with a crossbow. I'm happy for him he has an awesome area known for big bucks and he has exclusive hunting rights. The friend there with him just came to the checking station to see this monster.
And now, with just a few days remaining, I'm sitting here because it's pouring rain today with heavier downpours coming. Tomorrow is supposed to be clearing with gusty winds! Sunday is a no-hunting day, so my best last-chance is Monday before I go back to work that night.
Let the pity party begin . . .

Bob--it's pretty much the same every year when I go on vacation down here. First we get a "record heat" wave which lasts half of the time I'm off, but I know the wind and rain will replace that. The wind starts up just as the heat departs and is incessant while the rain is hit and miss. I skipped today due to the rain, but am planning on sitting in that @#%*#@ wind again tomorrow (with my bow) while the junior shotgunners have a go at it.
My days to score on a biggun' before I go back to work are dwindling!
