Default Buckmaster's story

Did anyone read the story in Buckmaster's magazine about the guy who shot a 140 class buck out his window? Any thoughts on this?

I read that story in disbelief wondering how that would ever appear in its magazine. I don't know about the rest of you folks, but I found that story disgusting. In my opinion, I think it was unsportsmanlike and the so-called hunter didn't follow the rules of fair chase. What kind of chance did that buck have....NONE! Although it was legal and is in many states....Sorry...I don't consider that hunting in any shape, form, or manner. I live in the country and have deer, coyotes, geese, all kinds of game that I can shoot from the house or porch. Called in a coyote the other day to within 16 yards of the deck but in good conscious can't harvest that animal....it's just not fair to the animal in my opinion. These are my own personal ethics, but I wouldn't even consider that an accomplishment. That fella didn't earn that buck and I sure don't have any respect for what he did or for him.

I am a Life member of Buckmasters and will be forwarding my opinion to them regarding this matter. Although Legal....it doesn't make it right or fair to the game. You should have to earn your buck!

Geez, I could open the window & give my grandmother a gun to shoot a buck that way. Now does that make her a sportswoman or a hunter? I think not. Just makes her a killer in my opinion.

I consider that fella to be lower than the yahoo's that enter the woods for the first time that year on opening gun day. At least those guys are in the woods and if they only get one by sheer luck of being in the right place at the right time.

Sorry for being so negative with this. I know this is just my opinion...and maybe i'm all messed up in my thinking. What do you guys think of this?

I would say you are on the right track. If it is legal and on his ground I guess he has a right to do what he wants, certainly that is not hunting.
Big difference in killing and hunting some people just don't get it.

Buckmaster doesn't have a very good track record in my opinion. Glorified killings, shady sales techniques. The called the other night with all kinds of bonuses for signing up in an attempt to get me to take a subscription. They couldn't buy my business....

What is the difference in this and shooting a deer from a tower blind like I see on shows from S. Texas?

I didn't read the article and I also agree with not shooting one off the porch, just thought I would stir things up and ask opinions on these Tree House blinds.

In my opinion, the difference is that hopefully one has scouted an area before they drag that thing out there & construct it in that area. 2'nd is that you still have to get there without them spottin you (at least it's somewhat fair). I wrestle with these types of questions all the time and have determined that I have to do what I think is right (within the law) despite what others think or even it makes for a more difficult hunt. After all I have to live with myself 1'st.

What do you guys think of this?
I think you stuck your foot in your mouth. Never blast a man till you've walked a mile in his shoes. I know 2 people who hunt from their house, both long time hunters. One had a kidney transplant and has to carry around a filter bag thingy with a hose attached, plus an antiseptic kit to sterilize everything. The other guy is my elderly father at 84 yrs. old has high blood pressure, and diabetes, along with a weak heart. Would you deny either of these people a deer!! Do you think either of these long time hunters want to hunt like this!!! I say more power to them. Until you know the whole story, maybe you should not speak badly of someone.

I read the story and thought the same thing as you did kec. The guy said he spotted the buck in the woods behind his house and he walked through the woods a few times and jumped it but couldnt get a shot. He then decided to let it come back into his yard and he would take it out the window. Dont get me wrong I'm sure this happens all the time and very well may be legal, but I dont think this should be bragged up in a hunting magazine.

You'd have to be a Moron to deny anyone in that position to hunt! Thats a far cry from what we're even talking about!....... By the way if a family is starving or needs deer meat to survive i don't have a problem w/them taking a deer out a season.

I remember being brought up on the farm. Right in the middle of 2 nice deer mountains.Dad often shot deer out of the house window. He was not hunting really ,he was getting the family food. All the farmers did it in the area. But they did not say they were hunting. Just getting food from the deer they have feed for years with their crops.

since were on the topic of buckmasters, I have a great story for you guys, i dont know if all of you have seen it or not but its Jackie Bushmans "famous" deer i guess its a large typical buck wiht a drop tine i believe on the right side, when he shot this deer about five years ago i saw the magazine so i bought it, upon ariving to the archery shop that i went to then, one guy that works thers saw it and said hey ya wana see that buck when it was still alive? i didnt know what he was talking about so he showed me 35mm photos of it at point blank range and it was DEFINATELY the same deer, here the guy had it about a hundered miles from our house in a one acre pen in PA and guess what the headline article was for that hunt "if ya want to kill big bucks in Pennsylvania ya just got to know where to look" i was so shocked i called buckmasters and wrote them countless letters, but they denied it and tried to give me free merchandise to hush me up those people are totaly rediculous. but at least jackie bushman knows where to look, ON DEER FARMS!!!

If it's legal then I'm not going to run the guy down too much but shooting a deer out the back window of your house is hardly hunting and certainly nothing to be bragging about in a magazine article. Buckmasters has a history of printing stories that later end up being an embarassment to them. I remember a while back they printed a story by a guy from South Carolina in which he shot at about 4 or 5 different deer from a treestand, missing some, wounding some, killing one or two. The guy however never checked to see if he had hit any of these deer. He just kept blasting at everything that came by till he actually ran out of bullets. Trust me the story sounded worse than I am telling it.

I joined Buckmasters once way back when but I despise them now. It was like being a member of the Columbia record and tape club from hell. Every day I got telemarketer calls from them trying to sell me something else. I know that they sold my name, phone number, mail address and e-mail address to every telemarketing firm in America. Every week I got stuff from Buckmasters in the mail that I didn't not order which I had to either box up and send back or send them money for. Sometimes they sent the same stuff twice. Sometimes they tried to act like they didn't get it back from me and would keep sending me a bill. I put up with this for about 2 months which is about 2 months longer than I should have. I finally went off on their ass like a stick of dynamite and even had to threaten legal action. The Dalton or James gang back in the 1800's weren't jack s%%t when it comes to being money hungry bas#%#%s compared to Buckmasters. My advice is avoid them, their shows, their magazine and for d@%# sure their organization.
