Default "calling" a spooked deer

I had a nice buck at 18 yards (http://forum.hunting.net/asppg/tm.asp?m=810431) and he spooked. My question is: should I do some calling right away as the deer is trotting/running away or be quiet?

I hit the can call almost immediately and then followed it with a young buck grunt. Didn't work. Will calling the buck turn him off to other calling (will he assoiate the calls with what spooked him)?????

My experience says go ahead and call. I have had them turn and come back and I have had them continue on their way. The calling can only help. If not, you've lost nothing because the deer was leaving anyway. Good Luck

Last year, I had a buck come into grunts I shot and missed over his back, he got a little spooked and ran out of the woods looking back into the woods. With some soft grunts and a few calls with the CAN I got him back into the woods in range, but every time I stopped him for a shot he stopped behind a tree.

I was using a Mature Buck grunt, and it peaked his interest enough to come and check out what shot at him again!

Try blowing. Make the sounds another deer would make after its spooked. Then try a soft grunt in between, but don't overdue it. I use the M.A.D. calls wheezer to simulate the blows a whitetail makes when spooked. But be careful, the deer who have responded right away have always approached down wind.
As a matter a fact the buck I took this year was duped using this method.
