3D versus hunting

Just to clarify, you guys don`t care for the open class?Thank goodness at the big shoots, we have our own courses, everyone is slow.
At local shoots, I let everyone shoot through, does that get me any brownie points?

Like anything there are different levels of 3D shoots. Our local club has one just about every month. When I'm able to go, I usually don't keep score. I just like trying to guage distances to the different targets, and shoot the different senarios. These aren't money shoots. If you choose to keep your scores, trophies are awarded at the end of the year.
I suppose 3D can be as competitive as you want it to be. For me, it's a way to break up the normal fixed 2D target shooting.

Big Country, I don't mind the open class. Just enjoy poking at 'em over their serious attitude. Where I do have a falling out with them is taking their big tournament gamesmanship to the little local shoots where everyone is supposed to be having a good time, where guys are getting out the wives and kids whose lives don't revolve around 3D, and who don't want to spend all freakin' day out on an archery range. We've lost a lot of family participation in my area because of the time it takes to get around a course nowadays.
We don't allow binoculars or umbrellas on our range, so we don't draw the open class. Our shoots start by 9 and are over by 1. I've had many open class shooters tell me it's impossible to shoot a 30 target course in 4 hours. Our trads can shoot the course twice in 4 hours. Kinda gives a reference to how far apart the open class is from the other classes.
Anyway, at our club, a guy can bring his wife and kids out for some shooting in the morning, then she can go do her shopping and the kids can have time to go play with their friends in the afternoon. We're exposing those women and youngsters to archery, not beating them over the head with it. It's taken some time to get the word out, but our way is starting to pay off with more family shooting.

Dave did you get that P&Y McKenzie Oak mounted? Thanks for explaing the differences, maybe I will start 3D shooting if I ever get up the bucks for a new bow, whenever I buy a gun I explain to my wife it will last a lifetime, it is an investment. When I start talking new bow, she brings up "it will last a lifetime, it is an investment"!!! They just don't get it! HEHEHEHEHE one day soon!!!! Marriage is no fun unless you can sneak one on them sometimes.

DT.... I'm up to 220. When Pauly decides to make the trip from West Virginia I'll drive up. I too don't mind the Open Class. I just like poking fun at them like I do at anyone. Tazman... you'll have fun... trust me. I've only done it three in the last two years and all times just to get together with people from these boards. I did practice a couple times at Lens range. Two years ago we had 9 or 10 guys from NJ, PA, Md and WV. A bunch of us met in NJ at the Bowhunter Jamboree also a couple years ago for another get together. That time we had NJ, Mass, NY, Pa, Florida and Maryland folks. We also had a couple young girls(DTs and Big Johns Daughters). It's fun to have a couple tinkerbells shooting from 10 yards. They had enough ranges there that you could find a place not to hold anyone up. Droptine is a great and patient teacher with the little kiddies, including me. It's what you make of it. Incidently, they're all liars. They're far better shooters than they let on. I miss once in a while to give their egos a little boost. They need it you know. Have fun!
