How far do you drag a scent pad for a scent trail?

Little input here, please.

You can drag it as long as you want, you just may have to freshen the rag every fifty yards or so.

I like to drag away from my stand at least 100 yards or to a crossroads trail if possible. Drag in 2-3 different directions using the wind.

I would like to try this technique this weekend. I've seen a good siz buck on a field 3 weeks ago and would like to get a shot at him before gun season. The crops should be out and any extra help getting him in close is a bonus.
Do you recommend, prefer, or have had success with any certain scent?
