Default Length of scent drag

How long can a scent line be and still be effective? I was planning on re-scenting my drag 1/2 way to my stand, but how long will a buck follow it? Is 300 to 400 yards to far?

Also, is it better to use a gel as I normally do (CodeBlue gel) or is it better to use a liquid type scent?

Thanks.

Default RE: Length of scent drag

Actually, I use the sray and I normally don't have that long of a walk into my stand. I wait until I get away from my truck a ways and then spray the drag rag down with the scent. I go about 200 yards to most of my stands and I've had deer comin nose down on the trail I laid. IMO the rag is leaving scent even when our minds are thinking the scent has worn off. Just my 2 scents

Kill a big one! C.H.
