1. It's a $hitty thing to do by this game hog.
2. It sounds like your father in-law wants lots of deer killed and it could've been a matter of herd control. Lots of landowners don't care about antlers.
3. Many landowners are easy going and enjoy the company of their neighbors and locals they've known for years.
4. It also sounds like you had a lot of built of hopes which were misplaced.
5. You might just lose all access by throwing your fit.
6. See point 1.

what's the relationship of this guy to your father-in-law?? family, friend, coworker? did he previously have arrangements with your father in law to hunt there? regardless, it sounds like he's making an attempt to work with you on this. thats one positive point. he laid down the terms, so abide by them. but don't bs him when your not just so he doesn't take a deer from your spot when your not there, even though just the thought of that gets you riled up. if 3 guys agreed on one spot, it must be a prime site, but trying to screw him over isn't the answer. that is IF he didn't see your stands there already. if the landowner doesn't have a problem with it then you'll have to deal with it. but be cool about it. if he doesn't want to continue with the terms he set, then he should move on.

Jeez, you guys talk like ya own the place.

If it looked good to you, it probably looked good for the same reason to him. Even if he is a "tag along" they never last long and you may find it handy to sit in HIS stand some time.

If it was still gett' n on my nerves I'd nail the nut sack to his steps next time I killed one.

I've hunted public ground where this one dork was hauling homemade ladder stands all over 200 acres and thought it meant he owned that spot. I used his stuff when ever I felt like it. He had literally 15 stands out there and left them all year. It's first come first server on public land and you have to remove all stands at the end of the season.

They aren't "buying" an acre of public ground and keeping me off it for the price of a couple two by fours.

Since it's not your land it's not your call ,
the "other guy" has permission to be there and apparently your father in law sees nothing wrong with his choice of stand placement . Stirring him up the way you did also doesn't help . This is the same type of situation that you might face on public land , either learn to share the woods or hunt somewhere else .

BTW , did it even cross your mind that any deer that will circle around him are probably gonna pass right by you instead ?

Sounds like you father-in-law a real nice guy,or you are a lousy son-in-law,(whatever),but I have two suggestions, since you've already tried to be decent about this.
First-Remove his ladder stand and deliver to his driveway.First come, first served!!!
Secound-Buy a Viper X4,and this will never happen again....Bob

I have found is the best way to get a father-in-law to do something is to have his daughter(your wife) get him to change his mind. Daughters have alot of pull with their Dad. That way you are completely out of it.

Sure it might be kind of a prick thing to do, but he does have permission. I would still hunt it now and then, and look for another spot when I'm not. I would be a little angry also, but try working with the phone call system, maybe you'll end up working with him next year and not against him

While I would personally never place a stand near someone else's (unless it was to make a point - like you shouldn't have put your stand near mine last year), it doesn't mean some scumbag won't put one near mine.

I'd make a decision based on the other guy - if he struck me as a true hunter, and if I believed he honestly didn't see my stand, I'd probably agree to his "I'll call you" offer - as long as he follows through.

On the other hand, if he's a sleazebag riding the coattails of my hard scouting, I might just empty an ashtray or two all around his stand and bury the butts under the leaves .....

No, I know it's not the "right" thing to do - but if the guy is a real jerk, he deserves whatever he gets.

NO WAY NO WAY NO WAY If you were there first & this guy hasn't been hunting that area before he should hit the road.
