Lowest Draw weight for deer?
#1
What would yall say is a ok low draw weight for bow hunting deer? florida law says 35lbs which is low but I have an old Bear Black Bear(I know not the greatest) But ive had it forever and it fits me well Id call it a youth bow and I bet ive had it since I was 15(6 years) But at 5'5" i need a smaller bow and this one fits good but here goes It maxes out at 45lbs. Is that ok for a florida deer(well under 200lbs) and Ill probably just shoot a small doe or something with it Im only comfortable shooting at 30 yards Ive shot farther fine but 30 is as far as I like to shoot but does 45lbs sound ok for what im doing?

I would say no for 30 yds. Your arrow will be going to slow for that range, but I would say it would be fine for 20 or less. Also use a two blade broadhead such as the magnus stingers. These are considered the best penetrating heads for low poundage bows. Keep em behind the shoulder and you will penetrate enough to kill them, but if you hit the shoulder I don't think you will get through it.

Colorado requires a minimum of 35 pounds to hunt elk. I think you will be plenty safe with your bow and Florida white tails.
Put a cut on contact head on the end of your arrow and those deer won't stand a chance. A big deer down there is only 150 pounds. Not much there to worry about. Your arrow will have plenty enough oomph behind it to zip right through deer to 30 yards. You'll be just fine.

I have only hunted with a minimum of 40 lbs my first year..... i had a doe walk directly under me on my first hunt , i shot straight down and only got about an inch of so of penatration , i had to of hit her shoulder or somethin.....
But with 60 i still dont get through deer , but i kill them...... and i have downed them with as low as 50 ...... but ive also heard of kids killing mature buck with 30-35 pounds , if you get a cut on contact head , and hit right between the ribs , you shouldnt have a problem!

its all about shot placement im sure 45 pounds will go through a shoulder probably not the second one, but if you shoot right behind where ur supposed to u will do a good bit of damage and most likely a passthrough all depending on what u hit...ribs etc. and broadheads u use i shoot 60 pounds and blew right through my deer last year and the year b4 i spine shot the deer but it broke his backbone so im sure 45 pounds is plenty

40lbs for ohio for compound and no less than 150lbs for crossbow. For a florida key deer i would think it would be fine........besides those deer down there are as big as a dog!
