Silent,
If you are so sure I break game laws or "bend" as you like to put it to aviod any inconvience to myself I wish to extend you an invitation to come to Maine and hunt with me this fall. I have a camp in the northern woods surrounded by thousands of acres. You could follow my every move to ensure that I abide by the game laws of the state. You could even brig you bow as long as you play by the states rules.
How about it, come see how I hunt.

adams,
I am not calling you a poacher or violator. I am sure that you go out of your way to stay with in the confines of the law. The point is that you can take extraordinary efforts to be a legal law abiding citizen and still break a game law, whether it be on accident or on purpose. I have to decline your offer for financial reasons and for logistical reasons involving vacation days. I already have a trip planned to Illinois and the finances nor the vacation days allow for more than one trip per year. I am sure that you are a good hunter and I am sure that you are an ethical law abiding hunter but I am equally sure that you are human and as capable of mistake as any other human. I equate this to the fact that most police officers will tell you that they can follow ANYONE for two blocks and wrtie them up on some kind of traffic violation. I think the same thing applies to hunting for a season. It is virtually impossible to make it through an entire season without breaking a game law. One of the primary reasons being that we can't remember every single law or statute and even when we do our best efforts sometimes go astray.

We have these laws for these reasons. Those of us who try to bend them until almost breaking the law are who they are meant for. There must have been some sort of problem at the time when the laws were written or there wouldnt be any laws to obide. Laws are for our protection and safety. If everyone were 100% perfect and 100% honest all of the time we wouldnt need laws and we would be walking on water. You should know the rules and limitations to anything you do in life, not just hunting. Ignorance is not an excuse. Mistakes happen, Once. More than once is not coincidence. You did it yourself

I understand you point about being inside the law 100% of the time. There are lots of little details that need to be in mind at all times. I know people make mistakes (I know, I've made my share) but most of my mistakes have come from bad decisions I had made. Actually I think all my mistakes are from bad decisions. But my point is it really isn't all that difficult if you pay attention to details.
It's too bad you will not join me in Maine this season. Maybe I can join you in Illinois [:-]
Oh well, maybe next year. If you can get here I'll put you in my camp. I wish you the best of luck in IL. I expect to see some pictures.

I've taken deer out of season before, but only with my truck! I also took the darn thing home. Turkeys too. They ended up costing me a new windshield. Drove right into a flock as they darted across the road, came out of no where.
Some of the laws are funny. In this area you can't use attractants or anything the game would eat. Why do department stores sell it then? You must wear zombie orange (even in the tree) during shotgun and BP even though its a bow hunting only area. Don't laugh. I bent a few rules now and then but there are some real slobs out there.

if i start arguing with you adams can i come up and hunt?
adams,
Since you were generous enough to extend the offer. I will extend the same to you. The private ground that I have to hunt is limited and not exeptional hunting. However, there are two different WMAs close by that have 40,000 acres between them, most of which is only accessible by boat so hunting pressure is limited. It's all hardwood river bottoms but there was a non-typical that scored over 200 taken off one of them last year. You are welcome to come down and hunt with me for a week and see how I hunt. But, you can only follow me around while we are scouting
, unless you want to bring your camera

Silent, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you as far as a lack of vacation time. I plan to get up to my camp for a week this season but that's all the time I have to spare. I've also got a child due in November which should cut my season short quite a bit. I do appreciate the offer though. Maybe next season we can plan something out. Anyway, I hope you bag a monster in IL and have a fun safe trip. Don't forget, I want to see pics when you return.
