I hate that moron with Jackie - he gives idiots a bad name, and that stupid stuffed toy.

My problem with those shows - they are 95-99% guided and on private property. Why not show a real hunt in the general population (sounds like prison). That'd be more interesting.

I did read an article about a guy and his camera man who sat in a tree for 4 days and didn't see anything - guess he's not a movie star.

Out here in Utah - we don't hunt in trees - so all that is odd to me - all spot and stalk.

I usually check deer by grabbing a back leg and giving a tug. If they get up I should be able to jump out of the way without getting hurt. I've never had a deer come back to life on me but these stories remind me of the toughest buck I ever shot. He had come out in front of me running on the opening day of buck season in PA. He stopped behind a tree and had part of his vitals blocked. I was in a climber so I had to stand to shoot and I aimed as far up as I could and squeezed the trigger. He dropped like a ton of bricks and rolled about 20 yards down the hill. I got out of my stand and approached him. When I was about 40 yards away he lifted his head and jumped up. I fired another shot that blew off his right front leg below the knee. He still kept going. So I leveled my gun on a branch and shot him in the neck (he was facing directly away from me). When I ran up on him he was still trying to get away. I was getting a little close to the road to be shooting so I pulled out my knife to finish him. When I grabbed his antlers he bucked up at me and tried to gore me. At this point I reminded him that I still had the rifle and that was all for him. He was one tough buck. Even his anters showed he was tough. He was a basket rack 8 and each point showed signs of injury. Hope I don't run into too many more like him.

Either way it doesn't matter to me, do whatever you want. Poke em, kick em, heck even drop your pants and....,I just walk up and gut them though. Seems to have worked for me for the last 20 years anyway.

Funny you started this topic; I ordered that Tree Lounge video, mostly for the deer footage (I've already got the best stand on the market: Summit), and the footage showed that idiot probably 50 times walking up to a dead-as-a-doornail deer, poking it, and exclaiming &quot;He's down!&quot; No duh!

If he'd said, &quot;Got 'im&quot; or something like that, even &quot;He's dead!&quot; But &quot;He's down&quot;? We could see that as he was approaching from 50 yards away.

Some of these idiots need to get a dictionary and learn the difference between &quot;down&quot; and &quot;dead.&quot;

WELL I'M NOT A MOVIE STAR BUT WE HAVE BEEN FILMING MOOSE HUNTS FOR 4 YEARS HOPEFULLY AFTER THIS NEXT SEASON WE WILL HAVE ENOUGH GOOD FOOTAGE TO PRODUCE OUR FIRST VIDEO. FOR PROBABLY 40 YEARS I HAVE TOUCHED THE EYE OF ANIMALS TO BESURE THEY ARE DEAD. A PARALYSED(SP) ANIMAL CAN BE ALIVE AND NOT RESPOND TO A KICK IN THE BUTT, THEY WILL BLINK. ON BEARS I'M MORE CAUTIOUS I HAVE STALKED WITHIN 20 YARDS AND SHOT THEM AGAIN JUST TO BE SURE EVEN THOUGH I WAS 90% SURE THEY WERE DEAD. LET THE TAXIDERMIST REPAIR THE HIDE NOT THE SURGEON REPAIRING MINE. OF COURSE IT IS REINACTED ON VIDEOS BUT TO GET THE FOOTAGE IS REAL HARD AS YOU FIRST DO IT. COUNT ARROWS IN QUIVERS SOME TIMES IN VIDEOS THEY CHANGE FREQENTLY. THE HARDEST HUNTS I'VE DONE HAVE BEEN WHILE TRYING TO VIDEO THEM YOU JUST DON'T REALISE UNTIL YOU ARE DOING IT.

Good one! I would probabaly avoid an invitation to dinner at your house though.

When I was a kid I was told by an old woodsmen that I was proud to call my best friend for many years(he's been dead 10 years now) Son, just poke em in the eye with yar gun barrel and iffn they blink, pull that thar trigger again. He never heard of Jackie Bushman, Bill Jordan or any of those others.
I had a deer that I didn't do that to cause I'd shot it in the side of the head with a 30-30 at about 35 yards. It dropped like a stone, I unloaded, got out my knife, opened it and the deer got up. I grabbed an ear (it was a doe) and stuck it in the neck with the knife (I was pretty young and even dumber than I am now) It seems the shot hit about an inch or so under the eye and although the deer dropped, it wasn't immmediately dead. I don't think now that the knife killed it. Standing up was probably the deers last hurrah but I've approached em all with caution ever since!

I'm not a T.V. star but wouldn't mind being one. I could learn to stage my recoveries to if I could hunt for a living.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I've been hunting for almost 30 years and I've always either touched them in the eye or gave them a little kick. Thats what was taught to me and I'll teach my kids the same for safty sake.

God Bless & Good Hunting
