Gentlemen, gentlemen,
I walked up to a "kill" of mine a few years past and strattled him to begin to remove the entrails, & as I just started to roll him over he gets up (with me on his back) and we both go "high-white-tailing" it thru the cornfield, I am hangin on to his antlers with a heck of a tightness, & that buck is just a whackin those standing corn plants over that I thought the farmer I had permission from would really be pissed at me when I told him this story! Anyway, he was'nt p o'd at me at all! He just told me to make sure none of his neighbors saw me doin this cause they then would be askin to hunt his land all the time too! (Sure hope J. Bushwhacker doesn't see this)

I don't think I recall ever poking a deer in the eye. I just look at the deer eye for a minute, you can easily tell if he has bought the farm. That glazed over eye is unmistakable. As far as the tv hunting shows go, I don't really care for any of them. Just my two cents.

OK, I stand corrected. Real people do poke an eye. Wait.... maybe you're movie stars.

Nope, I haven't seen that one Wilke. I do know if a deers eyes are shut you better blast him. I had one I shot one time with a rifle running flat out straight up a hill at me. I put it on his chest but by the time I shot his head was there. I layed a big crease right across the top of his noggin. He went down like a ton of bricks. I noticed his eye was shut but thought nothing of it. I had walked down to him and was standing there while I watched my buddy come across this field to me. About the time he got close the deer decided to get up. He hadn't moved a muscle before that. Another quick shot put him down but it was a surprise. The deer had been on the ground probably 5 or 10 minutes. I had creased the skull and opened it and blown off one horn.

Isn't it funny how we do different things depending on who taught us?
I personaly have never poked anything in the eye besides my brother. And as far as kicking them in the rear, thats my brothers typical response to me poking him in the eye!
If the animals eyes are glazed over, its obvious that it dead. The other sure fire way of knowing is to hold their head under water for about 2 minutes, if they don't start flopping around they are dead!
