My father and his buddies used to hunt years ago in jeans and plain clothes and never seemed to have trouble filling the freezer.
My dad killed his nicest buck ever.......a real nice 8 pointer while weraing jeans, a flannel shirt and shooting a double barrell shotgun
I think camo is just fine to wear but I also believe you could see just as many deer without it.
Like many have said already........movements and sounds will get you busted 99% of the time.........not what color pattern is on your shirt.

I've said for years, as an elk hunter that camo was way overrated, the same as scent lok clothing. I wear a leather ausie type cowboy hat wool pants and a camo long sleeve shirt. My son wears no camo at all except for his hat.
I think camo gives hunters a certain type of confidence, if that's you, then stick with it.
As far as elk goes it doesn't matter, just don't move around as he's on his way in and you'll be fine. Be more concerned with the wind than your fashion. elknut1

In the mountains I've found out most camo is too dark anyway. It shows up as a blot moving across a hill side. Unless your in dark timber it's not a big advantage. I like the like gray camo or wool outfits. It lets you blend into the grasses alot easier. Sometimes it's very hard to see bucks in the grass and brush and they are not wearing dark green mossy oak. Camo is made to break up your outline. But then all the old timers used plaid shirts. No its not needed. But the right camo can make a difference.

I agree, camo is not necessary for hunting deer. I have had many close encounters wearing blue jeans and an orange jacket without spooking game. On the other hand, I do hunt turkeys and feel camo is essential. Since I have the camo, I figure I may as well use it for hunting deer too, can't hurt. Also, I have been in the situation when deer hunting of being surrounded by turkeys. I believe had I spooked those turkeys, it would have alerted any deer in the area. Well, after the turkeys moved on, 3 deer came walking down the trail I was watching not 2 minutes later. What happened next is another story... Bottom line, camo isn't necessary, but wearing it and looking as natural as possible could make a difference in some circumstances. Besides, I can't seem to find any long sleeve Hawiaan shirts or jackets.

I feel that camo is important. Scent and Movement are very important also. Camo helps you get closer to game and that is the goal of every hunter. Realtree has the best camouflage patterns on the market today. Realtree helps you blend into your surroundings no matter where you hunt or what type of season it is.
Venom im from nashville IL and ive got some relatives that live up by you. We may have to suit up in the Mossy oak and pay you a little visit...............*pounds fist into his palm*

No offence but I have to strongly disagree with the statement that real tree is the best camo patern on the marker today. The only reason that Realtree, mossy oak, advantage, etc... is so popular is in the marketing of the product.
The two best camp paterns on the market today are ASAT and Predator. These two break up the human outline better than any other camo out there right now bar none. These two may not have the amount of market share as the front runners but they will some day because the work so much better than the sticks and leaves paterns.
