Default Is cutting your own arrows worth the trouble?

Is it cost effective to make your own arrows rather than buying them at the proshop. I've thought about purchasing a high speed arrow cutter to cut my own arrows and then fletch them myself. However, I'm not sure if it is just as effective to continue to get my arrows from the shop. Can you buy just quality arrow shafts without all of the overhead cost? ie. can they be bought directly? If so where and again is it worth the effort?

It is in the eyes of the beholder!

Shaft material is as available as fabricated arrows. On the average, I save in the range of $17.00 to $20.00 on a dozen of XX78 Super Slams.

However, the saving is not the primary reason I build my own arrows. Having ready stock, quality control, being able to readily test different setups, and being able to setup the arrow precisely to my personal specs are the chief reasons I build my own arrows.

That says it all right there![:-]

I couldn't agree more!

I agree with C903, he pretty much said it all.

I got my Carbons cut for free the last time I went to the Proshop!

I just use a small pipe cutter and it saves me about $10-12.

When I was using aluminums, I saved the $3.00 they charged to cut them by cutting them myself with a small pipe cutter.

Now that I'm using carbons, I let the pro shop I'm going to cut them--they don't charge for it when you buy the arrows there.

At $3.00 a doz i'll cut my own and as for reasons as stated above as well ..and besides that you never can depend on getting them done when needed if you purchased the shafts whole,(uncut)...from another source.
I too use a small pipecutter works really well ..(Aluminum Arrows)
And as far as being worth the effort , too me yes it is ..

Santa brought me a Bitzenburger LEft Wing Jig & Clamp. Going to give this arrow making stuff a try. Thanks for the idea on the pipecutter. Any pointers on inserts.
