Once you spook a mature buck by him actually seeing you is he gone from that area for good or will he eventually go back? my story is underneath if you want to read or you can just reply to my question.
Yesterday afternoon, My wife and I went hunting. It was a perfect day for hunting. We decided to hunt from the ground on a road near some oak flats. We followed the road until I thought we had a good spot. I set up on one side of the road with my wife opposite of me and a little further back. My wife had cover in front of her and I didnt because I wanted to be sure I had a clear shot. About 15 yards from us I made a trail line of Code Blue Estrus and hung a scent wick from a tree at the end of the line. I knew if something were to come out it would come out from the opposite side of me follow the trail line and that would be it. About fifteen minutes after setting up my wife signaled to me she heard something coming from behind me. I couldnt hear that well because of the head cover I was wearing and the swarming mosquitoes buzzing by my ear. I didnt pay much attention to her because she had been telling me all day that she thought she heard something(lol). My wife saw directly 15 yards from us in the woods coming out right at the scent wick a brown belly and a tail. I couldnt see from where I was standing. She looked over at me to get my attention and didnt. She was too scared to whisper thinking she might spook him. Then out he came like he was King of the Road. At this point I still havent seen him yet. My wife looked over at me dying inside becuse I had my bow in one hand and swating mosquitoes with the other. I looked over at my wife which looked like she had just seen a ghost. I turned my head and the ten pointer with about a 21 inch spread and a drop tine locked eyes with me. I heard my heart beating in my right ear and there was complete silence in my left. Only bowhunters would understand what I was feeling at that very moment. What did I Do? The very thing I shouldnt have. The buck kind of flinched at me like he was fixing to dart so I automatically drew back on my bow and at the same time obviously he snorted and was out of there. I called at him to see if he would stop for just a mere second, but that was useless especially for a mature buck like him. For a moment I just stood there and then I looked at my wife. I was thinking to myself Maybe I shouldnt have drawn back, maybe i should have put my head down. He still would have spooked but maybe not out of the area. He may have come back. I really don' t know. My first thought when I saw him was I cant beleive this is going to be my first buck with my bow, my second thought was how is my wife going to get me out of here when I have a heart attack. I never imagined that so many thoughts could run through my head in such a short period of time. Overall, I couldnt have been more happier to experience something like that with my wife there. Now she understands why hunting is an addiction.
