If after 10 years of DEER hunting, a person is still is not sure what to do after hitting a deer, does not know how to evaluate the hit and possible lethality of the hit by the post-hit actions, and has not arranged ahead of time to obtain permission to follow a track into adjacent property before they stick a deer near the fence-line…or to determine they can' t enter the property, DEER hunting is headed for big problems.

Bad shots can happen to anyone. There is no excuse for lack of tracking skills, not being prepared to track into as many areas that the deer might run, and not being able to reasonably determine what kind of hit appeared to have been made.

3 hours? That is how long you looked before giving up and moving on. That buck may well have givin his life and you think all you own him is three hours? I am sorry but that is pretty sad.[:' (]

Since you and your uncle did not find him, you still may have a chance. Get several of your friends and go out there and spreadout about 30 yards and walk the place like a deer drive. Doing a grid search at a time. 12 eyes are better than 4. We have found deer this way after the blood has stopped. If the deer is wounded you may see him and may get another shot. You shot a trophy some of us down here in the south dream about.....don' t give up.
