How far was the arrow sticking out of his body? If you saw the arrow where was it in the shoulder? How did the deer react when you hit him? need more info

If you hit to far front, your in for a long track job and most likely no deer. However, if you clipped the lungs your penetration should be enough to put him down fairly quickly. You say you stopped tracking at the property line, could you see if the blood trail continued? or did it just stop at the property line? Any bubbles in the blood you found?

was it more of a " thud" when you hit him? or a really loud crack like a gunshot?

If half the arrow penetrated, and you hit in the shoulder, that shot should be lethal. I' d say you more than likely got at least one lung. You should be able to follow the blood trail to him. I take it you didn' t hear a " crash" after you lost site of him?

Get a buddy, get permission from the neighbor and go get your buck. Follow that blood trail as far as it will take you. Don' t go stomping off the trail because you think you know where he is. Take your time, you' ll get him.
