RE: Need help..Just stuck a MONSTER!!!
I agree I think you got at least one lung, maybe both. Does any of the blood have bubbles in it?

RE: Need help..Just stuck a MONSTER!!!
It sounds like you missed the first shoulder blade but the arrow possibly longed in the opposite one accounting for your lack of penetration. Sounds like it should be down not to much further from where you stopped. Stay persistent while tracking and best of luck. Lets see some pictures of this bad boy!

Sounds like you got him. 15 inches of penetration is plenty. I' ll bet he' s another 50 yards from where you stopped. That sound is him breathing with a hole in his lungs, most likely, and you being so close to him is why you heard it so well.

Take your time once you get in the thickets and stay off the trail. If its pretty thick keep looking around and ahead. If you see him bedded still alive back out quietly and give him time to expire. Don' t push him a 1 lung deer can go along way! Just take one other person with you. Good luck !!!! keep us posted!!!

RE: Need help..Just stuck a MONSTER!!!
If the bright red blood was not pinkish and did not contain any bubble, then you may have missed the lungs altogether and just hit muscle in from of the lungs. It is really impossible at this point to guess from the info you gave us. Good luck tracking him and let us know what happens.

I' d give him a good 5 hours before tracking. One good thing is that time is on your side. You' ll have some good daylight to track.

If you have decent blood and a trail established, I think your chances of finding the buck are good. Now, you just have to ask permission to gain access to the other property to resume your tracking efforts. That should not be a problem. I bet you will find your buck in those thickets and in his bedding area. He probably bedded down and died.

RE: Need help..Just stuck a MONSTER!!!
From experience I can tell you if you hit bone solid it sounds just like you shot a 2X4, it will make a really loud almost CRACK! noise. When you say you hit it in the shoulder area was it right over the shoulder, slightly forward or slightly back? In regards to the blood if your hit was as high as you say the blood is going to be dripping after running down the deers shoulder since you didn' t get a pass through to allow a lower exit wound, you may still have hit a lung and the blood is not pink or frothy because it is running down the deers shoulder before dripping off. I agree with the others in waiting for a good while before tracking him. Even if he beds down and the bleeding stops, with the broad head still in him 15 inches he will reopen anything that quit bleeding with every step he takes. This deer in all likely hood is a goner with 15 inches of arrow and broadhead in his shoulder.
