I am scent freak, so I have never brought coffee in my stand. ALthough, my father always does gun hunting, and it never seems to bother him all that much.
One thing I would never think about doing is smoking in a stand...altough every year I hear a story.." I just lit up a cigarette and..." it makes me VERY mad I am so meticulous with my scent, and some people get away with a hunting sin!

This reminds me of last year when this guy when to his stand settle in with this coffee and then lit a cig. 10 minutes later he was walking out with a 10 point. He was hunting about 1/4 from me. JERK!!!

The biggest hunting sin is not playing the wind, you can scent control until the cows come home and if the wind is blowing from you to a deer, unless the rut is on and the buck is crazed, you are BUSTED!

YEAH!!!! Tazman nailed this one directly! [8D] Believe me, if there is anyone who has been busted so many times, it' s ME.

A deer can smell you fart in the woods from a half mile away. Just like how a turkey can see you from a half mile away.

I have never detected that having hot coffee in my stand was detrimental. However, improper timing of pouring a cup is.

One year, as I sat near a hot spot that a huge 12 pointer was using, I was cold and decided to pour me a cup. I checked the harvested bean field in front of me where he usually crossed and it was all clear for hundreds of yards. I slowly stood, turned and retrieved my thermos from my pack.

I turned back to face the field and had just taken the cup off the thermos. About 50 yards out in the bean field stood the 12-pointer....looking dead at me. I swear he had a small grin on his face just before he left the country. I sat down and enjoyed my hot coffee, even though it was now a bit salty.

Thanks guys for the information i have been 8 times this season and have only saw 4 deer none close enough for a shot so i thought maybe it was the coffee beacuse this is the first year that i have brought it to the stand in the past i would get down when the head ache came from not having a cup of coffee yet.

I wonder if I could drink any flavored coffees like vanilla or hazlenut. That may create a curiosity with the deer.
