I' m normally a gun hunter and have many different types of rifles, from shotgun to 30.06 and muzzloaders and have been deer hunting since ' 96. I tried bow hunting last year and decided not to do it again this year since I was not very successful. I spent a lot of time in the woods and only got off one shot. My wife wanted to shoot me with it since I was spending every weekend in the woods.
Also I have a older wooden compound bow, a little bigger than the Hoyt' s or PSE' s on the market today. I had it restrung and new sight added at Hunters Gallery in PA. I am also shooting Easton aluminum arrows with 100 grain tips.
I may start shooting it again in November to prepare for the late season in PA.
I appreciate any advice other than the usual that is shoot and shoot some more.
Thanks for being there...
Tom

Sorry to hear you not hunting yet this year, all i can say is i have had many seasons like you described but i have also had loads of fun and chalked up loads of memories... a lot of beautiful days with the leaves changing and just watching the woods come alive.
I guess you have to take the good with the bad and if you do have a wife that gets upset with you it does make a difference.. my wife has been really supportive of my archery hunting... so i cant complain at all...
But i wouldnt give up archery hunting for any other type of hunting!!....
maybe try to do some more scouting, and things will come together more, try to get involved in some late summer 3-D shoots, that usually get the blood pumping for me... Maybe get a new bow, and you might shoot better and have more confidence, i dont know what else to tell you other than your missing out on the best time to hunt and a lot of good memories...
Hope you get back out there....

A wooden compound? Is that a collectors item?
Just kidding with you man. But seriously, bows have come along way since then. If you can afford it I would start by trying to a little better bow. Everything will just shoot and feel better. You don' t have to spend $500 to get a good bow either. Anyway, whatever you decide, just practice ALOT, the bow needs to become an extension of your body. Your body needs to be conditioned to act in a precise way when the moment of truth arrives, only practice will accomplish that. With only a couple months to practice, you may have a hard time getting everything to come together this season, if so great, if not go ahead and start preparing for next year. By the way, Welcome to the board, hopefully some of the guys who know ALOT more than I will come and give their opinions. Good luck.

Welcome to the board Tomster. When is your late season? No need to wait until November, get out and start shooting now. The more you practice the more confidence you will have at the moment of truth. Good Luck.

Nice to meet you Tom and glad to have you as a member of the forums. I think you will find a very informative bunch here in the Bowhunting and Tech. forums. If you have any problems or questions then fire away...and if you have any advice to give then we could use that well.
Have fun.
Frank
