What do you think is a good group?

Tight groups are expensive. I cut alot of fletching at 20 yds myself, so I try to shoot a different bullseye each time. At 30 yds' s maybe a 3" -4" group, but I don' t plan to shoot a deer that far, so I don' t worry about it. Get close to the critters and keep practiced, that' s what it' s all about.

I tell you what, I shot with an outfitter in S. Illinois last season, and he was undoubtbly the best shot I' ve ever seen. I' m not bad, not great either. I can consistently hit in 6 inch circles from 30 yards. This guy put four arrows in a four inch circle for 55 yards. He did say it was the best he' d done from that distance. I would' nt beleive it if I was' nt standing next to him. He told me he hit the first one right on, and the next few were just auotmatic. He had the feeling of what the first one felt like, and that was it. Very impressive. He was shooting a brand new Mathews Legacy, with Easton Aluminums, and 125 grain field points. He was fun to watch. He also has three deer on his wall over 160" , I rather have those!!!!

I mainly practice at 30 yards, but go up to 50 and down to 10. At 30 yards, I will shoot 4" circles consistanlty. On a real good day, it will be around 2 1/2" inch groups at 30.

Regardless of the " Howard Hill" clone proclamations you will hear, you sound as though you are an average bowhunting shooter that could benefit by some minor tweaking of your gear and your shooting skill.
Don' t let the stories of " Robin Hood" or fletch/vane-trimming shots be your guide. " Robin Hood" shots are an accidental (chance) phenomenon, and fletch/vane cutting and dented or gouged shafts are counter-productive.
Question: During your many years of hunting, is it common that you miss your quarry and has it been and is it still the norm that you just wounded and lost many deer…. or whatever your primary hunting quarry is?
What gear are you using? What shooting (form) problems, if any, are you aware of that you cannot seem to overcome?

One shot in the bull works for me, I have a hard time making the deer stay there while I keep shooting to get a proper group....... any suggestions (I' ve tried tying them to a tree but after the first shot they run around to the other side..)
