Nub,

I just recently bought a bow and i am interested in bowhunting so i am asking and trying to learn from people who have experience so if you don' t like my questions, please do not bother to respond[X(]

Norse,

As i said before, i am just asking questions regarding bowhunting since i am still in ' bowshooting/hunting 101' I try to avoid headshots even with a gun. Just wanted to see how many people aim for the head on here.

RED HAWK, not a problem, I give you alot of credit for asking, please dont be affended, but sometimes on open forum' s like this it may seem like a mob mantalitybut it' s not were just here to help each other, and I may need your
help in somthing, but the answere to your question is no, reason it' s just to marginal of a shot, from a possible wounding stand point, and should be avoided,
draw a outline of a lets say deer, from front, messure 1/3rd back, then top to bottom, bottom 1/3 rd up, draw a circle, then inside that circle draw a small circle
that' s were you want it, broad side shot' s are what is prefered,, but not what you get, every time, I hope this help, by the way, does red hawk stand
for SUPER RH, god I love that gun,

I take body shots only, I have never attempted a head shot, but know someone who uses a rifle and will shoot the head everytime....he says that it wastes meat when takeing a shot in the body. I disagree with him, but can' t do much more than that. Head is very smlall, especially at long distances. You could wound an animal and never find it. Matter of fact...I went hunting on public grounds out in western MD, and seen a doe roaming around with the lower jaw half blown off... I dunno what was used to do it, but I was going to take her out just to put it out of its misery....but never got a shot.....horrible.....

only use a head shot to finish off an animal that is wounded. People think a head shot kills intantly but that is not the case I had to shoot a small buck a couple of years ago that had his lower jaw blown off not the way I wanted to use my last buck tag

Never and I mean never take a head shot with a bow. I don`t care how good you think you are IT IS NOT HUMANE to try and shoot an animal in the head with a bow(small game aside). It is a shot that if even the slightest thing doesn`t go perfect you will regret for the rest of your days, and the rule is if it can go wrong it probably will but at least the heart lung area gives you a margin of error.

In 2001, I had a chance to shoot (rifle 308) the best buck of my life (mature 8 or 10 point). Head shot, head on/walking toward me. I did not shoot. I waited for him to go broadside. He did not. He pulled a 180 and WALKED DIRECTLY away...another chance at a head shot (in the back of the head). The area was thick, so all I could see was from the ears-up.

I never pulled the trigger.

My hunting buddies give me a hard time for not shooting, but I am comfortable with my discision as it was an iffy shot. All I could see was skimming his ear/neck and having him run off and suffer.

I wish he would have went broadside.

Anyway. Hit the vitals, not the head.

Man, just thinking about hitting a big game animal in the head gives me the creeps[X(]

besides, thats way to close to the pretty horns to be flinging an arrow or bullet

First of all Sean, I' ll answer any question put to these forums any way I please.
2nd. I see you' ve been around here for a couple hundred posts, have you bothered to read any? What forum have you been hanging out in? You come in to a BOWHUNTING forum and ask a dumb a$$ question about whether or not to shoot a deer in the head with an arrow! What type of answer do you expect? How many threads have you seen in this forum about proper shot placement? How many times have you seen someone in the bowhunting forum bragging about a perfect head shot? Do you even spend any time at all in this forum? Or are you to busy playing video games? Tell me, do you shoot deer in the head in a video game? Do you aim for the head with a gun? Do you even hunt?[:@]

Poodles should be shot in the head, should you get the chance.[X(]
