In 2001, I had a chance to shoot (rifle 308) the best buck of my life (mature 8 or 10 point). Head shot, head on/walking toward me. I did not shoot. I waited for him to go broadside. He did not. He pulled a 180 and WALKED DIRECTLY away...another chance at a head shot (in the back of the head). The area was thick, so all I could see was from the ears-up.
I never pulled the trigger.
My hunting buddies give me a hard time for not shooting, but I am comfortable with my discision as it was an iffy shot. All I could see was skimming his ear/neck and having him run off and suffer.
I wish he would have went broadside.
Anyway. Hit the vitals, not the head.
