So crossbow are legal now......

Can anyone explain to me what all the controversy and in fighting is about over crossbows? Within it's range and used properly it is an effective weapon for dispatching game. Use it if you like where legal don't use it if you don't like it. The weapon(s) we use to kill game should not be a subject for causing division and fighting amongst our hunting brotherhood! There should be no debate!

You are a wise man. Many are just selfish and misguided...nothing more.

Crossbows have never resulted in a negative when added to archery season. They've never been the cause of herd decline, over crowding in the woods, shorter seasons or bag limit changes. In fact, their impact to bowhunting is far less normally than the impacts compounds have had.
There is no real reason to not add them, they're as easy to a compound hunter as a compound is easy to a traditional bowhunter aren't they?
Pope and Young is the root cause of the anti-crossbow hatred, and its unfounded and especially silly since P&Y sold their soul on the >65% letoff rule and all the other technological advances bowhunting has seen.
sorry guys, I don't hunt crossbow, in fact I have been hunting recurve for a few years and will be going back to a compound this year, but living in a crossbow states, I'm speaking from facts and experience, not from fear of old wives tales.

But this doesnt tell me why "you" are at a disadvantage. You are not competeing agaist a xbow...you are competing against a deer. What someone else uses has nothing to do with your success rate....thats up to you. If you are not successful don't blame someone else.
As far as the range you are dead wrong. Do your homework. I see guys shooting deer and elk at ranges of 60 to 70 yards with a bow. A xbow may be a little faster but it pushes a lighter arrow that loses energy faster. It's a myth that the xbow is a longer range weapon.
Your last point is the key to the whole xbow argument that many will not admit. They simply do not want more hunters in "their" woods. Some dance around stating history and tradition and the danger factor but you stated the true and only reason. Thank you.
It sounds a little hypocritical that you give the muzzle loader example yet you use a modern inline yourself. I agree that the inline is a better longer range gun over a old flint lock.....but you can still use the old flintlock if you choose. No one makes you change.

And yes I'll admit that I enjoy the fact that the hunting pressure is not as heavy as rifle season, but here last bow season I was laid off so I hunted everyday for a month and seen only 8 deer and none that was in bow range and I hunt private land. And every deer I seen would have dropped if I were using a xbow.So if you are on public land competing against xbows I beleave that to be a BIG disadvantage.
And as for the muzzle loader read what I wrote! yes I have one but I didn't say I hunted with it,I also have AK but that don't meen I hunt with it!!! but if I did and we were hunting over looking the same feild me with the inline and you with a flint lock who's at the disadvatage?
As BC said either have a weapon of choice season or have an xbow season, but to combine the two IMO will ruin bowhunting for those of us who LOVE it I spend countless hours working on my form and shooting skills and that is not needed with an xbow(arrow rifle)
Example I have a .270 win that I have not shot for three years and shot two shots with it this yr one at a target the other put meat in the freezer!

You say that compounds have done more harm,so they had an impact on bowhunting but you don't think arrow rifles will also? If they havn't in your state give it time they will! Here in WV those of us who wanted to hunt muzzle loader we had only two days to do so then a few years back they extended it to a week and the number of hunters increased then they allowed modern inlines and the number has increased almost to the levels of rifle season. And I personally don't want to see that happen to bow season. Many don't want to put the time into bowhunting (and we all know how much time we each dedicate to it) but many would jump at the chance to increase thier hunting time if all they had to do was sight in there arrow rifle and then sit back infront of the tv and wait for season to open!

Well again you are missing the point, yes many bowhunters can shoot out to 70 yards but very few would even try it,but anyone who can shoot a rifle could shoot a xbow out to that range I would say that is a big disadvantage over a traditional or modern bowhunter.

I got this from Bowhunting.net.....
Myth: A crossbow will shoot much faster and farther than compound bows.
Fact: Under controlled conditions, a series of velocity and kinetic energy tests were performed on 2 compound bows with 70# peak draw weights (248 and 205 feet per second) and 2 crossbows with 150# peak draw weights (228 and 242 feet per second). The bottom line was that both the compound bows and crossbows produced similar ballistic results. That is, the crossbows did not shoot farther or faster than compound bows, as some people claim. If fact, the arrow from the crossbow begins to lose velocity and energy slightly faster than the compound bow after 30 yards of flight because it shoots a lighter/shorter arrow. However, that difference, while measurable, is slight and insignificant considering the typical whitetail deer shot is less than 30 yards.
As you can see the light arrow of the xbow loses energy faster. The compound will be the better long range weapon. Just do your own research. Don't just go with rumors.
If you only see 8 deer in a month then either you hunt in a very low population of deer or you are not very good at it....

guess it was easier to ignore the facts I pointed out about your lies you spread thinking a wood prod crossbow could be held at full tension for long periods.
