Default CALLIN ALL BOWTECH AND/OR SIMMS FREAKS!!

Hey guys,

I am planning on ordering some more stuff for my bow on Friday. Now, as you all know, I like the grip on my BowTech MightyMite, but, it is a little big to be ideal for me. Now, I took the grip off and it seems a little too small to be perfect, but still very comfortable.

Okay, so, here is what I am thinking of doing. I am thinking of taking the grip off, and wrapping that area with the Simms Insulator Wrap. Like I said, the feel of the bow without the grip is just a little to small and I think the Simms Insulator Wrap might be enough to put it in my ideal category. Has anyone done this, and if so, what are you comments on it.

Now, another few questions. First, how easy is the Insulator Wrap to install. It looks simple enough, but, if there is one thing I have learned in archery, its that everything can be decieving. Second. How does the Insulator Wrap hold up? Is it durable enough for one a serious well used hunting rig? Third, Does it actually help reduce handshock and noise? I can see how it would but don' t think that it would be enough to notice. I could be wrong though. And Finally, how easy is the Insulator Wrap to remove? If I put it on the bare riser, when I want to take it off (if I ever want to), will it be a pain in the butt? Will it leave a glue or something sticky all over the riser? Will it fill the holes for the grip up?

Thanks guys, like I said, Friday I will be ordering some stuff. I gotta get my Rocky MT Gator XP' s, and a few other small things to finish of the MM.

BM,
Don' t forget that removing the grip is also going to effectively change your draw length as well how much depends upon how thick the grip WAS and how much you plan to wrap back on..........
I' ve seen bows wrapped with SIMS insulator wrap, and held them and I didn' t like it at all felt weird, was too " Grippy" and looked like....[X(]. I however have never wrapped one so I can' t comment on the process.
Another option to consider is Tennis Racket Grip Wrap. Its a tough but smooth and slightly cushioned vinyl. It should come in colors, but it is a potential scent control problem I guessif it gets funky.
You could also order a custom Shrewd grip for it, but you are talking some bucks for that route. Not sure but they might also offer just custom sideplates as well? I thought I remember seeing someone with a 2002 Patriot with custom sideplates.

Hey Matt,

I can always adjust the cam a little bit to shorten up the draw length a bit. The Insulator Wraps does look a little strange, but, it kinda looks comfy. I won' t be shooting without gloves, atleast when hunting.

The side plates would be awsome. I would love to get side plates and putt a Simms Insulator strip on the rear part for more comfort.

I' ll definetly check into that though. Thanks.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to buy a new bow. Short of that, I don' t like anything on my hands or grip that is clingy feeling. I detest all the light and midweight gloves now have rubber fingers or dimples or leather strips etc on them. TO me, I' d sooner wrap it with something like moleskin..... or wrap with the sims stuff and put moleskin over it. That way your hand can slide comfortably to the same spot every time and not get hung up on rubber. The biggest selling point on my Darton was the grip, it' s small size and the way it felt. Nothing like it.

Well l guess when it comes to Sims Insulator Wrap,
I' m standing alone[:' (]. I orginally put them on my
Q2 and FX because my hands sweat so much. After
using them here in Iowa in Nov/Dec (cold temps),
I really liked them. I could actually hold my bow
without feeling like my hand was frostbit. I
haven' t put one on my Patriot yet, but probably
will sometime soon. Everything I' ve read, and
my friends at the bow shop, tell(s) me I shouldn' t
be using it, but I actually like the way it feels.
I' ve shot with and without it, and have no difference
in my arrow groups.

It is simple to install and there is no glue involved.
It' s wrapped very tightly and the end is tucked.
Removing it probably takes all of 30 seconds.

I really didn' t notice a difference in hand shock
or vibration reduction, though it may help a
little.

Hmmmm,

Thanks guys, I am going to scratch the Insulator Wrap idea. Now, time to search around and see if I can find side plates. If not, the moleskin idea doesn' t sound to bad. I would much prefer the grip removed than having the grip on, but, the metal isn' t good comfortable. If I don' t find any side plates, I might just wrap it in mole skin and put a Simms Insulator Strip on the back to make it a little more comfortable.

Thanks again.

I think you can get the " smooth" Sims grip wrap also which would be thinner.

Hey Buck if your brave you can allso go the file and sandpaper route . Narrow the sides of the grip with a file and then sand it smooth . Its tough to put it back on though

I' ve been setting up a MM for a buddy of mine and he loves it(Too short for me but a nice bow none the less). Definately scrap the insulator wrap idea unless you really like to torque your bow . I have yet to find a grip on a bow that I like....I ALWAYS remove the grip and I simply add the sticky neoprene to the back of the riser where I grip the bow. It has worked well for me. I was in Cabelas yesterday and noticed that Sims has a " new" insulator grip and it is basically a 4" long x 1/2" wide peice of limbsaver material that sticks to the back of your riser where the grip goes. Basically the same thing I do with neoprene but with LS technology. You might look at it. One other thing that I' ve done and liked resonably well is taking tennis racket handle wrap. IT provided good grip but wasn' t " sticky" .

CG,

I was looking around and could find any side plates or grips that I liked, well, enough to put the money in them, so, I have decided to get the Simms Insulator Strip and just put it on the back of the grip. That way it is a little cushion instead of shooting the bare riser.

I am ordering it along with my new release, broadheads, and a whole bunch of fishin stuff on Friday
