hit one tonight

Well I finally got a shot at one tonight. It was at last light when they finally came into shooting range. I think I made a good shot, but not quite sure. my arrow had some meat and fat on it. I think I hit high. After I shot it took off out of sight. I heard one blowing in the direction the deer ran, not sure if it was another deer blowing or the one I shot. I waited for about a half hour or so before I got out of my blind. At this point now its dark. I went over to see if my arrow was at least over there so I could see what it had on it. All the blades on my muzzy 3 blade are all nicked up and one is bent a little. I know its not from hitting the ground as it was laying in this thick tall grass. I am going to go back out tomorrow at first light and hope its laying over there. What vitals could I hit if the shot was high??? I know I wont sleep well tonight. I just keep replaying the shot in my head over and over. My wife and I did go back over with some lights about 1 1/2 hours after I shot. I didn't see any sign. So I backed out. I hope if it is laying there dead, the coyotes do get it.

There wasn't much blood on the arrow at all. I didn't see any blood on the ground. It was dark. Just some meat and fat on my arrow. But most of my arrows I have shot deer with have looked pretty much like this one, minus the chipped blades, thats new. I have to say also, I have never shot a deer in the evening. All the deer I have ever shot, bow or gun have always been in the mornings.
I was confused after the shot, because, there was a deer blowing in the same direction my deer ran, But I wouldn't think that a wounded deer would stick around a do that. I hoping it was just another deer.

Sure sounds like you hit him high. The lack of blood is a good indication that you missed the vitals, but maybe in the morning you'll make contact. If you know anyone with a tracking dog it would be a good idea.
Good luck, I know the feeling.

I hate this feeling of wondering if it down, was it a bad shot, was it a good shot! Like I said, I have never shot one in the evening. I have to wait 3 more hours then I'm heading over to look for it. Sure hope its laying there. I hate the thought that I got a pass through, and the deer is still alive and hurt. Just not good on my part if that the case. Don't want them to suffer.

1 question, do you think a wounded deer, weather it be a good or bad hit, would stand over there and blow for 10 minutes???
Then to top it all off, I just heard a pack of coyotes this morning. They weren't where I was hunting but still out back, and could have found my wounded/dead deer. Oh, I am hunting out behind my house.

Wounded deer don't typically blow. If you got the vitals, you should find your deer within a couple hundred yards I would think. If you don't find it, and since you said it went high....you likely had a backstrap hit, in which case its probably still alive. I would definitely search where you heard the yotes...they seem to find em pretty quick in some areas. Good luck, keep us posted.

DAMMIT!!!!! No luck. Not one spec of blood anywhere
, I have been looking for the past 3 hours, and nothing!!! As you can see from my arrow, it was a complete pass threw. Its hard to see the broad head, but the blades are all nicked up and the one is bent a little. The problem with going over to where I heard the coyotes is, the guy is a prick!! I don't know if I should just sneak over there and take a look, or take a chance and ask him if I can go look over there. If he says no, then I will never find out if my deer went over there. Where I heard the yotes is about 3 to 400 yards left of where I was hunting. I didn't see the deer run that way, but I guess it doesn't mean it didn't turn around and go the opposite direction. I don't know what to do. I even looked in there bedding area and none of the beds where laid in last night. I don't know what to do now. I hate the fact I wounded a deer and it may be suffering......
It just keeps getting better. As im standing on the back deck listening at the crows to see if they may have found my deer, I see an 8 point chasing a doe in the field at 10:30 in the morning. I am sure the rut is in full swing now after seeing that.
