Seeing the arrow, and rereading how you hit the deer, I have a feeling you didnt really get a "pass-thru." I believe you may have hit just the very top of the back, (somehow missing the spine) and just sliced meat on the deers back. The arrow, in this type of hit, would look as if it were a pass-thru. From your picture, obviously, that is a meat shot. Secondly, I would say that your blades got bent by hitting the ground or something of the sort. If they hit his backbone, he'd have dropped.
My guess is its a flesh wound and that deer will be just fine. That high of a hit could explain why a deer was over there blowing. All he knows is he was over there, and now hes in a bit of pain. So he may have been warning the rest of the deer around.

My arrow was laying on the tall grass/weeds. They are 6 feet tall where I found the arrow. I strongly don't believe my arrow ever touched the ground. Thats why I'm so confused at the shot. Knowing it never hit the ground, but had that much blade damage. Is it possible that I hit the very top of the spine bone and yet not injuring it enough to put it down??? Or cause a fatal wound?? And no blood??

I don't know what kind of angle you had for the shot, but I don't think you clipped his spine and the only place I can think of where you would hit enough hard bone to bend and chip blades is and only get meat and fat is the breast plate and shoulder area. Both of these areas especially around the chest plate have a lot of fat.Just my 2 cents.Hope you find him one way or the other,or better yet maybe you will see him again.

I was in a ground blind, so I pretty much had a straight, level shot, broad side. It was dusk, and looking through that peep site I didn't get the greatest view. And the fact of there being no blood anywhere, I'm thinking you all are right with you first thought, that I hit the very top of its back. I'm 95% sure the shot was not low. Thank you all for your input. I think it will be ok. I will have to set my camera back up over there and see if they all come back. After that, I'm thinking they wont be back for a while.?
