The ONLY reason that P&Y won' t allows 65%+ letoff is because the organization is managed by crusty old farts who use stick bows and either feel inferrior to modern compounds or look down their noses at our technological wonders. I swear, it sounds a lot like the old bastards at most of these country clubs around the country, hell, who wants to play with these looser anyway?

You go Belle[
]

Let-off has nothing to do with it - It should be the amount of weight one holds at full draw.
For all you guys that agree with the rule:
If you shoot a 45lb Pat dually at 65% letoff you hold back 15.75 lbs
If I shoot a 75lb Pat solo at 75% letoff I hold back 18.75 lbs
Should I be kept out of the book and you let in??
Can I hold my bow back longer?
Do I have a great advantage??
The rule is a joke!!
And it will change soon, Like Fred Bear did. Money talks and to stay in the times you must change with the times.

I THINK ITS A CLUB THAT DONT RECOGNIZE ALL OF THE BOWHUNTERS OF AMERICA.YOU STILL GOT TO OUTWIT YOUR QUARRY AND MAKE THE SHOT! ANY WAY THERE WOULD BE NO NEED FOR BOONE AND CROCKET OR VISE VERSA WITH THE SAME GROUND RULES.

Wow, this thread is still alive? Forgot about this one!
Horsefly,
Precisely my point. Which is why it is so silly to make that the " line in the sand issue" with hundreds of other technological advances and not say a word.

Couldn' t have put it better. Sad to say, but I think you hit the nail right on the head with the " country club" comparison. Maybe that took hold after the 90-some year old founder died, eh Lilhunter?
BTW, Lilhunter, I ain' t trying to dis ya here, man. But if you are going to use the old cut and paste, at least use enough so that the context of the quote is accurately reflected. Let' s try using a little more...
I am not calling on P&Y to outlaw anything; simply to be consistent. If they outlaw higher let-off, then carbon arrows should go as well, and aluminum...and most other technological advances that give a hunter FAR MORE advantage than let-off of greater than 65%. Of course, if they want to look silly, keep passing silly rules like let-off, then they can expect to be viewed in the same light as a bunch of old fuddy-duddies at a country club, arguing over how deep the rough on the 13th fairway should be mowed.
Rack-attack..
Beautifully put! And for all of you trying to compare high let-off on a compound to a crossbow, any comments to that point?
...But hey, it' s P&Y' s call. If they want to diminish their clout with bowhunters by keeping such silly rules, it is their right to do it.
They will have no one to blame but themselves.
Horsefly,
All that high let-off is not a big advantage to the majority of bowhunters trying to harvest a 125" + buck. Sure it is handy for holding back longer but it is not the biggest advantage out there.

I do think some at P&Y have motives that are other than " keeping bowhunting pure" . I have spoken with a couple of the members who are part of the rulemaking process and there does appear to be an undertone of " Hey, the bow I shot mine with in 1980-whatever was a club compared to what you guys use now!" . To that my response is that we should then also outlaw the following: carbon and aluminum arrows,
titanium broadheads
mechanical broadheads
plastic vanes on arrows
graphite risers and limbs
single-cam compounds...heck, lets disqualify compound bows altogether!
rests other than simple ledge rests.
