This arguement is never going to die. Honestly i dont understand how people get so bent out of shape over what other people are using in the woods. As long as they arent tresspassing, they have just as much of a right to use the woods and shoot the deer as you do. Let them have their fun and they too shall let you have your fun. You want to go shoot a fawn with a bazooka, if its legal, have at it. Like somone mentioned before, its a deer.
Here is my major question- What is it about whitetail deer that makes people loose their minds? You hear it every year, people trespassing, breaking laws, fighting with fellow hunters, argueing over what gear they can or cant use. Honestly its a deer. Are antlers really that important? I want to shoot the biggest buck out there, but not at the cost where its going to ruin my season if i dont. Why is it that deer bring out the worst in a outdoorsman? You dont see people arguing over bows vs guns over turkey do you? What about bass fisherman using lures vs live bait. I just dont get it.

I just love threads like theese......It shows just how uptight, selfish, and egotistical some hunters can be. How dare someone introduce another type of weapon that just might get more folks into archery hunting.
Get over yourselves for Pete's sake! It's hunting and should be enjoyed not argued over!. It shouldn't make a hill of beans to you what the hunter in the next county has as their archery tackle. If they choose a long, a recurve, a compound or a cross, they are all a type of bow with similar characteristics and killing power. Some of you want to dissect and dissect till you find some kind of difference in them just so you can try to segregate one from another's hunting season....And for what??? So YOU can have the woods to yourself?? No that's not selfish.
I've got a great idea for those of you who are so uptight about this whole crossbow hunting. Buya piece of land and put a frickin 10ft barbed wire fence around it and post sign that says somethingto this effect "This is private land for a bow hunter only because I think I'm better than you and I want to keep you slob crossbow hunters away from my precious deer, so I can kill them and tell everybody who will listen (and even those who won't) that I'm the greatest hunter of all and you're not because I use a compound bow to hunt with" If not, then hunt the public land with everyone else and shut the hell up!
For as long as I live I will NEVER understand this typeof mentality...NEVER. You guys need to take a step back and look at what you're doing to hunting as a whole...you're only going to kill it from the inside because of selfish, self righteous, elitist ways of thinking. You should be welcoming any new form of hunting that will bring more folks into hunting even if it's just a handful. Because I've got some news for you, the number of hunters is dwindling and dwindling fast. Before you know it there won't be enough of us to have a say in our hunting rights and hunting will be gone forever, then what will you do with your precious compound bow??
I'm ahunter, period. I don't care what I hunt with because I'm not a bow hunter ora gun hunter, I'm a hunter.
EDIT: For the record, let it be known that I've never hunted with a crossbow, I've shot one a few times to sight it in for my late Father-in-Law but never hunted with it. I wasn't all that impressed with it and it was a Ten-Point Pro Elite crossbow.

Fingerz42, Again you are incorrect on your assumptions that crossbows will bring unethical hunters into PA. You have no data to prove your theory, all the "test" states have showed 0% increase of hunting accidents with direct correlation to crossbow hunting... So either the numbers lie and we should just take your word for it.... OR we can take the words of professionals who have spent time researching and collecting data years before they pass laws allowing crossbows.

For the record, my father and uncle both hunt with crossbows. My father hasn't hunted the last couple years, though.
I have no problems with what weapon is used. A dead deer is a dead deer, regardless of what it was killed with.
Again, my problem is with slob hunters ruining this sport of archery.
Not all crossbow hunters are slobs.I openly admit that.
I realize there are slob hunters that hunt with every weapon.
What I want to make clear is..... that many rifle only hunters, that may consider going out with a crossbow, should educate themselves about how different things are with a bow.
Judging yardage is critical with archery equipment. Shot placement is also critical. You can't just put brown hair in the scope and pull the trigger, like so many do.
Archery already gets a bad rap from the antis. Antis consider shooting an arrow through a deer to be the ultimate cruelity.
Don't you guys worry about slob hunters without proper education heading afield this year? I'm not talking about ethical, educated hunters. I'm talking about the Jim Bobs and Billy Bobs that are out there.
You know the type. They make us all look bad.Even though we fight amongst ourselves, that does nowhere near the damage as a news story does, on the television, when someone finds a crippled deer in their yard and they contact the media.
I've taken enough deer and could quit hunting tomorrow. Its not about my pride. Its about the slob hunters who will be out there without taking the time to get educated. The ones that won't bother to check the sights on their crossbow because they don't know any better.
Like I said, My father and uncle use crossbows and I hunt with them. Its not the weapon I have a problem with.

I agree with you and I too can't stand a slob hunter no matter what weapon is in their hands. I feel we as ethical hunters should do all we can to educate and inform the uneducated and uninformed.
I just don't like the idea of excluding another form of weapon based solely on the risk of attracting more slob hunters. If slob hunters is the problem then this case can be made for ALL types of hunting and ALL types of weapons. Slob hunters as slob hunters no matter what is in their hands.

I'm assuming these aren't "new" hunters you're afraid of. I'm guessing you're worried about gun hunters now picking up a crossbow.
Let me ask (and I've already stated....I don't think PA needs ANY new hunters).....
Are they gonna get an extra tag? If not....can they not only take 1 buck (regardless of weapon)? How crazy can it get?
Honest question.

I agree, how crazy can it get??
While I sympathize with the PA situation and I do understand they are about to capacity with hunters, that's a stark contrast to the overall number of hunters which is declining. We need to get more folks, young and old into hunting if we want our generations to come to be able to enjoy this great sport. Complaining about and ostracizing crossbow hunters will not help.
