Hello there fellow hunters. I live here in WI. I was wondering, my girlfriend lives down in Akron, Oh, and I was thinking, why not take a trip down there one of these months to go do some hunting. Problem is, she doesnt hunt which means she doesnt know any places, but is willing to go with me. Do any of you guys know where there are any public hunting grounds near Akron? Say about an hour or two away?? Thanks for the help fellas.

Hey monster6, so you want to come be a buckeye for a little bit huh? Well, I can't really help you much for that side of the state, I am from and hunt the opposite side , NW Ohio. What you need to do is go on the Ohio DNR website and it will give you all the public hunting areas where you are looking. I have never hunted over that way before. Like I said, I hunt here in the NW corner and do some hunting down in southern ohio.
The website is www.dnr.state.oh.us/ You will find al you need there. Good luck!

Monster, there are several of us that are from NE Ohio that would be willing to help you out. As Proff stated the DNR site has great information but I know of ones that are closer. The only problem with those areas, particularly near Akron, you really have to know your woods before hand. There are public grounds east on 224 towards a small town called Deerfield. I would say depending on where you are in Akron maybe 40 minutes from Akron due east. In that area alone near Deerfield/Lake Berlin there are numerouspublic hunting lands. Do you know when you will be coming in? If you need more info feel free to PM me and I will provide you with what I know......Rob

I have not hunted those areas in some time but you are right.......alot of hunters. I PM'ed him and advised him about some the controlled hunts like Ravenna. I am not sure if that fits his pocket book or time but it is something else for him to look into. He said he is right off of 77 on the south side of Akron maybe he should head south down to some public land down that way.
