How many coyotes with a bow??
#11
I killed 2 coyotes this last winter with my bow. Both were called in with hand calls. I used 100 gr. spitfire on one and a 100 gr. rocket steel head on the other. Like some else before me said, I' ve killed many a coyote called in using rifle, but to call and take them with a bow is like no other. I shot one with a direct head on head shot at 13 yrds. and the other was the complete opposite, I released on him as he was trying to get away at about 20 yrds., and it went in just below his " brown" eye. Had quite a tracking job on that one, but we got him.

None, we' re afraid the dogs will get into them before we can get to them and stick themselves eithe with the arrow head or the broken off arrow. Most of the yotes we see are either running or trotting. Occassionally one will slow down and stop to listen for the dogs and make for an easy shot, but not usually. I would only shoot one from my tree stand if I was in an area I didn' t run them in, toooo much fun running them. Enjoy, Juniorpc

I shot one a few years back that was chasing a doe. There was actually two of them. The first one caught me by surprise but I was ready for the second. Shot him running and hit him to far back but he was dead before I could get out of my stand. Guess it doesn' t hurt to get lucky once in awhile. I have tried to draw on others but always got busted.

I' ve killed one coyote with my bow, but I' m not sure you can actually call it a " kill" . ....I' m heading back to camp after a slow morning of bowhunting, riding in the truck I see this coyote just standing on the side of the road, not 20yds away. I stop, get my bow, put on my release and WACK. It takes him a few moments to expire and when I go over to investigate I see that he has been caught in a foot snare someone had set out. Oh well, one less turkey eater.

Belle Island,
That' s hilarious!!! My buddy and I did basically the same thing one time....We were in a coyote hunting contest and we saw this coyote on a cow carcass. So we made about a mile loop, jogging to get position on this coyote....We called and called and couldn' t get him to budget.....finally, being the stealthy hunter that I am I got within 200 yards and put the 22-250 to work.....We went to pick him up and found out he was in a leg hold trap......We felt REALLY stupid.....Wasted an hour on this coyote and couldn' t even enter him in the contest!!! We killed 7 coyotes that weekend and 8 won the contest.....Go figure!!!!!

When I shot mine he was chasing a doe around. I am pretty sure he was hunting that deer. It`s strange because most people I`ve talked to don`t beleive coyotes will take a full sized deer.

I don' t know why, but I' ve had three different set of two come in when I use doe in heat attractant scent. They usually come trotting up until the wind where I' ve walked or just wind me, and then they turn and bolt. (they have way better noses than deer)
The one I shot was with a group of three that came up while I was hunting in a thunderstorm (like an idiot). It was steady pouring (I had one of those treestand umbrellas-worked good!!) rain and they came in like they new no-one in their right mind would ever be in the woods during a rainstorm (they were right- I wasn' t- the rut was on
). I guess they feel they can let their guard down in the rain. Same goes for the group of pigs that preceeded them.
