Most of the time I get lung shots and they go 30-50 yards. Longest went about 70. I find that the ones I shoot with a firearm actually run farther. My belief on that is that the sound of the gunshot gets their adrenaline pumping and they go a little farther before they expire. Just my personal experiences...

Although a poorly hit animal is not always recoverable.

Ability to recover a poorly hit animal depends on knowing where you hit it and what actionyou take next.

I'll be the 1st to admit that not all animals I've recovered in the past 40 years have been perfect shoots, but I knew where I hit them and what to do next.

Lord knows we all hope for great shots, but sometimes crapola happens.

Lung/Heart Shot - 20-40 yards on adrenaline

Spine shot - 0 yards...

Gut shot 60 -1000 yards[8D]...let them stiffen up and get them in the morning...stay on the deer runs..and use your instincts when tracking...

NEVER...follow a gut shot deer SAME DAY...be conservative...go home and sleep on it.

Since I started shooting 3 blade snuffers my blood trails have been shortened allot. They use to be anywhere from 80 to 120 yards with a double lung shot with a 2 blade head. With my snuffers I average anywhere from 40 to 60 yards on a double lung shot.

The buck I killed this year went 20 yards after I sent an 620 grain arrow tipped with a Snuffer thru both lungs, maybe 20 yards, then fell over dead!
