RE: Average distance a deer runs after being arrowed
Ihave never gun hunted biggame but this is my 52nd year of Bowhunting-I'm 67(Yep, I am OLD).
Ihave killed lots of different species-Elk, Caribou, Bears, Whitetail, Buffalo,Mule Deer, wild hogs & more. I'm guessing over 150 animals.
I kept records for my personal use for years & my average shot with a recurve was 20 yds. & average blood trail was less than 30 yds. 38 animals with recurve, wood, forgewood & fiberglass arrows with MA3 blade & bear razor Heads. Mostly Double lungs. The rest have been with a compound-Dartons mostly. Average shot is STILL 20 yds. & the average blood trail is STILL 30 yds & most are double lungs.I have had 8 drop in their tracks including one big Whitetail & other Whitetails, 1 Caribou& a hog. Wild Hogs inMY experience are the toughest of any animal I have shot to kill & have been charged by them when mortally shot. My farthest animal traveled was a 4x3 Elk shot through the heart& went (guessing) 150 yds & was still alive when I found him1 hour later& took a 2nd arrow through the lungs as he started to get up. I had one Whitetail Buck travel about 80 yds with a Liver shot.
I have taken 2 hogs this year at under 15 yds & one went 20 yds & the other 20 feet. 2 does this year & neither went over 30 yds-both double lungs-one at 25 yds & one at 10 yds..
Pic is where she fellfrom a quarter toward me shot-blood is exit.
