African safari hunt. Yay or nay?

But if shooting the best representative buck in NC works for you then why not the best representative Zebra NC has to offer.
Gary....I'll let WIll answer your Kudu question....but the lion he tookwas a spot and stalk. I don't see hunting an animal over a water hole and a whitetail over a trail/funnel/oak flat as being very different. The question puzzles me, really.

Droptine, you are incorrect with that post. There are low fence hunting spots throughout Africa. That is a common though, just like all of Texas is under a high fence.

Jeff I may be headed to CO to elk huntin 2009. On public land, I am doing the scounting. If I come across a waterhole I will hunt it. Being driven out and placed in a blind on man made or natural water hole is different IMO. I did not scout it, I did not find it. I paid to hunt it. There is nothing wrong with it, it's just not for me.
It's more about the hunt, then the kill to me. In my eyes Africa is more about the kill than the hunt.
I am learning the above, the hardway

Mr. Dave Samuel
"The key to trophy hunting is not the science and it is not in killing trophies. It is the philosophy, the value to each trophy hunter, and the way it was done. The key to trophy hunting isn't in the killing, it is in the hunting and the hunting is the philosophy."

I would love to hunt Africa. Not just for the hunt, but to see Africa as well. After reading some of Hemingway's books and The Man Eaters of Tsavo, Africa has been a place I've wanted to see.

That's a pathetic comeback.
I'm sure I've traveled outside of this country more than you. Still, that has nothing to do with the statement.
It's not all high fence. A PHI know has a 1200 square mile hunting concession in Mozambique. That's square miles. That's over three quarters of a million acres. No fences. Even if somebody wanted to fence it.... who could afford to?? (and what kind of fence would you need to hold in an Elephant?)
Are there fenced areas? Yes, but even the places that are fencedtend to behuge. Way more land than the little areas we usually hunt whitetails on.
