I had that feeling this morning Jeff. No deer spooked on the way in, snowing ever so slightly with a good wind. Saw two 1.5 year old bucks and 3 does...so shots though but i feel it was a good hunt.

I hunted 11 times this season and only got really positive feeling about the hunt twice. The first time ended up being an awesome evening where I had a bunch of deer all around me for hours, and the second time was when I shot my buck. I have learned to trust intuition as it seems to almost always pay off for me (in having a great hunt). Both times I just knew I should hunt those locations.

I would say.. honestly.. near 90%ish of the time I feel I'm in the right place.

And that would be up from 75%ish of the time from last season.

This season...

85% (pure guess) of the time I thought I was in the right spot.

I was only there one time.

I almost never have that feeling. I have to pep talk myself into most sits. At best when I do feel confident, its just knowing I am in a good spot, but I almost never feel I am in the perfet spot.
Same here, the ONE time I had that feeling this year, I had two shooters within bowrange that day (no shots). One came by at a brisk jog, the other only stopped behind brush. For some reason I just KNEW that day was going to be good.

Even though I hunt a great location, sort of, I never have very much confidence on my home turf. Hunting new farms and new setups, nearly every setup I make I start out with that feeling.

To be honest, not until I hit the stand and see my first deer, do I get that feeling. Probably 4-5 times per year, when I think all is going my way and this is the day. Not that I totally think it could happen any day, it's just some days, u know.

After Oct 24th I seen 5 bucks and one was a nice 11 I could have shot, I felt pretty good.

By 11-05-2008 good feeling was gone It just was not going to happen, the lack of corn killed me. IMO the single most important thing to have where you hunt to hold mature bucks, in high pressure areas is acorn field.

This is ag areas I am speaking about
