Default Cannot find deer

I shot a really nice 10 pointerthat was probably around 130-140 inches. He is my story. The buckwas standing at about 40 yards, and broadside. Shot and heard a loud whack. Deer took off running with tail down and head at semi-sneak position. Shot at 7:05went back to the house for over an hour and waited for my dad to get home. Went out and started looking for blood and found it right away. Where the buck turned to run away we found the arrow. He broke it. I guess i hit him in the shoulder and he had about 10 to 12 inches of an arrow in him.The bloodwas light pink. The buck left a really good blood trail for about 300 yards and it just had a couple of little drops and we lost the blood trail. The buck was going down hill and following a light used deer trail. We looked in all the creeks and tried to look in tree tops but could not find anything. We looked the whole day and could not find him. The buck was going down the side of a ridge and started to hook around the edge of it when we lost the blood. What do you guys think? Did I go after him to soon and do you think he is dead? Any feedback would be helpful.

By the way it sounds, you didn't get a good shot. Deer won't run that far if you get the lungs or heart. If you did push him, it means you didn't get a good shot. Maybe he died maybe he didn't.

well w/ light pink blood it sounds as if you cought a lung and a deer can go a ways w/ only one lung... good luck keep tryin.. just try and walkin a strait line from where you last saw blood.. get on hands and knees and look for any thing that might be from that deer

You need to stay on his path. If lost blood look for his track, a buck that size should have a good sized track. Also make sure he didn't cut back on you. I have yet to track a wounded buck over a long distance that didn't make a severe cutback at some point. I once tracked a buck in a over grown logged woods. He was running a trail, which was the only wayto get through the shoulder high briars. He stepped over a log, and turned left, right through the thickest above head high briars I've ever seen. They will do some amazing things.

Kinda sounds like a one lung hit. I only got one lung one the buck i killed this weekend and the bloodtrail was similar to the bloodtrail you descride. So you may be in for a long day tommorrow or when ever you decide to track him. Hopefully im wrong so good luck.

Take some help with you and go back in daylight. All you can do is make a grid search. Good luck finding him.
