RE: NC Buck Down + lessons learned
Congrats on the buck and especially on the rattling sequence. That's not real common around here. For me and just about all the guys I talk with, rattling doesn't work very often here. What is the activity like where you are? Chasing? Already locked down? Just starting to cruise? BTW how did you post your picture in your story w/o going to photobucket or similar site? I still want to post mine from Sept.24[:@]

Wolfpack, where in NC are you. Seems like some guys I know towards Raleigh are starting to see some activity as far as chasing. Over here in western piedmont I havent seen any chasing or anything. Boss man did say he saw a doe with a fawn cross the road, then a 6pter behind her with his tongue hanging out. It's not SUPPOSED to happen until right after the next full moon. Who knows?

Concur. Ratttling has never worked for me in NC.
In Eastern NC, scrapes have just started appearing in the last 10 days. Last year, they started on 6 Oct. Seems like the rut is running late this year. I saw a big forkhorn cruising at around 3:30 yesterday and the scraping is really picking up. Most of the behavior (that I have seen) would be classified as crusing.
The acorn crop is really weak here. How about you?

7. If the file is to large, email it to me and I will downsize it and send it back. Or, you should be able to crop/resize it with Paint on your computer. If you can get the search function to work, there should be some additional posts with picture upload instructions. If all else, fails send me a PM or emailand we'll figure it out.

RE: NC Buck Down + lessons learned
Thanks alot Kevin. I will try that today. I live in Raleigh but hunt in the bottom corner of Nash county where Nash, Johnston and Wilson counties meet. Our acorn crop is great this year. Started seeing good scrapes the first week of Oct.The week of Oct.16 I was seeing alot of buck movement. I belly shaved one on my birthday ( he responded to a grunt sequence and came in grunting every step on the same trail 3 does came in on 30 minutes earlier)andsome of my buddies saw alot of bucks the following week (20-25 of Oct.) I could not hunt during that week only on Sat. the 25 and I saw 8 does all day. This past week I hunted on Wed. evening (29) and saw nothing and only heard 2 deer in the distance on my way out. Saturday I hunted from sunup till 2pm and saw nothing and from 3-dark (2 miles down from morning hunt)and saw nothing[:@]2 hunting dogs from somewhere running the entire block ALL DAY LONG may have had something to do with that however. I did notice that the huge community scrape that is 10 yrds. from one of stands was all "leafed" over. Had not been opened in a few days I guess. A couple of very small scrapes 100 yrds. away were open though. I talked with a couple of guys that were running dogs a few miles away and they were jumping a few bucks already bedding down with does. So I don't know what is going on right now. 2 weeks ago there were bucks dead on the roadall over in Wake county, now I'm not seeing any?
