RE: Not 2 Impressed with the 09 Hoyts
I'm not overly impressed with the offerings of any of the companies I've seen the latest offerings from...Hoyt, Bowtech, Diamond, or Elite. But that's just from a visual standpoint. Go shoot them, and the story may change significantly. I think there will be a timeless battle of "My bow is better than yours," therefore, I'm not engaging into it, I think they are ALL better than what we had to choose from 10yrs. ago, so we should be happy that we have such good stuff to shoot in comparison to then.

RE: Not 2 Impressed with the 09 Hoyts
Well currently I'm shooting an Older PSE... I am impressed and excited when we get the new Hoyts in. I'm looking to bring home an AM35. If I woulda bought the Katera XL this year like I had wanted, I would probably be in the same boat and not see too much exciting over last year. Hell, look at corvette's they don't change much each year on average but make one hell of a car. On that note 95% of the people that buy them don't even drive them to 10% of the cars ability. Regardless of any bow that I buy it will probably be able to shoot better than I can.

RE: Not 2 Impressed with the 09 Hoyts
Personally its not the bow I am not impressed with, I should clarify that it is the LACK of new bows offered by Hoyt I guess.
Does the archery industry re-invent an old idea, or course, but just thought I would see more from a company like Hoyt. ORIGINAL: Mikey S. I'm just curious to see how many guys on here and anywhere else have actually shot the Alphamax to actually give a hands on review. I've counted zero so far. Well one guy tested one on Archerytalk. So many guys "unimpressed" , so little hands on experience. I'm not sure what every body expects them to do. Hoyt is usually dead on with it's IBO speeds, and with a little tinkering and good set of strings, it's not uncommon to pick up 10+ fps over their own rating. So what are the complaints concerning? They built a 32", 7" brace height bow that will most likely be smooth, quiet, easily tunable, easily shootable and forgiving, adjustable DL modules, fast enough for most guys shooting at deer at reasonable ranges, and the toughest limbs in the business. Are we disappointed they didn'tadd the wonderful cable roller guard idea this year ???[8D] I get to shoot one this weekend. If I can get to the shop between hunts. I hope to have a nice 2 or 3 word review of it. |
RE: Not 2 Impressed with the 09 Hoyts
Ive shot PSE, Hoyt, Mathews, Martin and Bowtech.....I HAVE a Martin...it was the best feeling bow I shot at the time......Hoyt fits and feels and shoots the best to me......none of them are anything to be sneezed at......but Id venture to guess that the Bowtech lovers are Jeff Gordan fans in NASCAR and listen to Backstreet Boys in between ;). Pot's getting a little thicker to stir.

RE: Not 2 Impressed with the 09 Hoyts
I will agree and say that Hoyt, BowTech, and Mattews all make excellent bows it is just the one that suits your fancy that u should shoot. Every person uses different factors to detremine what bow they like and that is understandable because we are not all hunting the same place and all demand different thing out of our bows. For example what meant the most to me was quietness because i bowhunt heavilly hunted public land and the deer are very prone to jumping the string on louder bows so i chose a BowTech General. But that dosen't mean that it is any better or worse than any other bow

RE: Not 2 Impressed with the 09 Hoyts
Yet, somehow....They remain one of the top selling bows. Now don't take this as a slam against their quality. TFOX is correct that they probably do have one of the best built bows on the market - but they are quickly losing their foothold as one of the top selling bows. Yes, in the grand scheme of ALL manufacturers they remain near the top but compared to their real competition they're slipping bad in terms of SALES not quality. |

RE: Not 2 Impressed with the 09 Hoyts
Hoyt was the company that set the standard that others had a hard time following. Is that the Hoyt of today? Everytime one caught up, Hoyt raise the bar. Many Hoyt shooter were very happy without a parrele limb bow, but the next thing you know, that's all they were offering and what tooktheir place was not a parrel limb bow that others needed to follow although Hoyt had years to develope one. It was deficient.Going on 3 years now and they still aren't the "wow" that people felt before. I know, I took my brother to shoot an 05 protec I'd gotten. He was a diehard pse guy and didn't think that anything was worth the upgrade. I saw him shoot it for the first time at the shop. Wow was what he said. He bought an 06 protec the next year. We both picked up a tykon and are wow was, what a load. I haven't felt the need to pic up another.
People pulled a 70 pound Hoyt's when they could barley pull a 60 of other bows. Nothing to improve? How about a setup that doesn't require a cable guard? bound to improve speed and eliminate problems. Or how about one with adjustable grips? Imagine the improvement in accuracey. Or a 50 pound bow that shoots 300 fps? The bow could be more light weight and fit almost anybody. |
RE: Not 2 Impressed with the 09 Hoyts
Who's counting :D
Not saying its a bad bow, heck haven't shot it. But from a Company who started Innovation night, they left some things to be desired. Without a doubt there has been a consolidation of bow companies in the last 10 years with alot of new (reintroduced) cams, limbs, etc....I guess I sort of look to see a bow company do something like Ski Doo did in the snowmobile industry. Keep in mind that I have been a loyal Hoyt shooter for years and shot a couple Bowtechs last year to try something out. As far as the low end Superhawk and Powerhawk, that was something they needed to add to the line, a lower end bow for the bowhunter on somewhat of a budget. RE: Not 2 Impressed with the 09 Hoyts
The SuperHawk and PowerHawk are no more thana Reflex Growler, cosmetically changed to read Hoyt. Well, that's not 100% accurate......One of the 2 has laminated limbs, something you wouldn't find on a Reflex. The Riptide is the Reflex Muskie, brought up to the Hoyt lineup.
